Insurance Increase Again!

It's insurance renewal time for me and the usual inflated price has come through!

I've done all the usual searches and comparison sites. It seems like an extra £100 on the policy! I've lowered the milage and taking the commuting off as I'm taking the van home now.

Anyone else getting such figures when looking for new insurance these days?

Oh, before Dan @ Adrian Flux gets in touch on here my most expensive quote is half of their quote

We'll all now be paying more when taking out a new insurance but, in theory, paying 'a bit less' to stay with our existing company.

The policy of discounting new business and then paying for it by stuffing your existing client base with inflated renewals has been outlawed from 2020 - so your renewal will still be more expensive than last year, but now moving to another insurer will be equally expensive.

It's another excellent idea from idiot politicians, all they've done is remove the benefit from people savvy enough to swap insurer every year without solving the robbery of the insurance market - we're all getting equally ripped off now.

If your car has no modifications, then getting quotes from places like Adrian Flux, Sky, Chris Knott, etc, will cost a lot more as the insurance companies that they go through only specialise in modified cars. They're not interested in standard cars.

Crazy high quotes means they don't want your business, but will take it if you want to pay.

how much roughly is the policy? i think insurance has been going up around 8% generally.
it might be a postcode thing, - ie more claims.
oh and any changes in circumstances?
My renewal from AXA is now touching £500 with the current cover.

I did a fresh quote with them out of curiousity taking off commuting and lowering the milage as the car is hardly being used and that was even more expensive.

I don't get how they work things out!

I'm going to give them a call on Monday and see if they'll do anything over the phone as they've been quite helpful in the past.

Just renewed my insurance with Quote Me Happy (part of Aviva). My premium has dropped from £430 to £380 with no changes in cover. I was unable to beat this on the comparison sites.

Called the insurance co last week as renewal approached, I told them that I was getting much better quotes elsewhere, ‘let me check’ says handler, almost £50 off right away! Within a tenner of my cheapest, that’ll do, easier to renew than start a new policy, I did need to ensure that auto renew was not on for next year though.

My Golf R has just cost £226 fully comp, protected NCD so it’s gone down - but I turned 50 this year so I’m probably classed as an old c#nt.

On a non Seat car, insurace last year was £512, upcoming year would be £547. 36 yrs old 6 year NCD, live in London E3.
When I had my Ibiza with a small 1.0TSI engine, insurace at the time 3 years NCD was £688, so it has reduced (might be due to the fact the car now is a Volvo!). Both policies were with Aviva

they may see a car left at home all day when you are not there as a risk now that theft is linked more to breakins.
but as you say it doesnt always make sense as the commute is quite a risk in inself. Alot of insurance companies now ask where will the car be left during the day, it could be its safer at work than home.

Mine went up about the same.
So I got a new quote and it went down to about £50 less than last year.

I'm with direct line.

I think mine only changed by about £20, which I was okay with. It's the usual renewal merry-go-round of saving £100 for the sake of a phone call or Mr Meerkat.com

Just done that with my house insurance. Saved £180 with one Meerkat search and one phone call to my current provider. Robbing Bar Stewards.

Hate them all.

You need to shop around and often change insurer, every year. Yeah, it's a pain and you don't want to do it but they're not stupid. They know it's a pain and you don't want to do it so play the averages knowing that a high percentage of customers will just renew without shopping around.

We stick with the big guys, Direct Line, Admiral etc, but change company almost every year. The difference can be hundreds of pounds and they won't price match. One year I said to Direct Line that if they dropped their price by ten pounds I'd stay with them and they wouldn't do it.

Mine renews in 3 days and went from £470 to £520. As I had done little mileage over the last insurance year (about 3K) they reduced the premium accordingly and compared to the AA (with Aviva) @ £415 which I would have taken by the way they came back with £350...here's my card details! Removing business use made no difference to the premium.

I was with Sainsbury’s last year for my Golf. Found a cheaper, like for like quote on line. Rang Sainsbury’s - they beat it by a tenner which made it easier as I didn’t have to faff about changing details etc.

Holy crap!! That’s crazy!!

I'm over fifty and insurance for anything is £300-odd quid.

It can be hard to know why quotes are high. My son lives in Glasgow and there was a year or so when a local knob was scratching everyone's cars. That one guy put everyone's insurance up but I'm sure there would be people in that scheme who had no idea why their insurance went up.
