What if you "forget" to tell them about the induction kit, not like its a hard thing to change if worst comes to worst and you do have an accident.

I would never do this, its not worth the risk if something was to happen. If and when I modify the car it will all be declared.

Im sure theres some of the guys would take a bribe. But yeah your probably safer telling. Personally I wouldnt tell, but my insurance is around 3k  so cant afford to do many mods lol, Besides its just an excuse for them to add a few £££ on!

yeah insurance companies laugh at us because we have to buy it, and they have no limit on how much they want to charge. People not telling about mods is part of the reason why your insurance is so high in the first place, so by not telling, and if you have a crash, you are contributing to higher prices for everyone.
My insurance was £3550 first year, £1250 this year and an estimated £750 in march (with remap, lowered suspension, tinted windows and alloy wheels) when i'm 19 with 2 years no claims.

I don't understand how you get quotes low like that for a cupra.
My 57 plate FR tdi is over £800 with 7 years ncb and 30 years of age.
That's 300 more than my previous A4 with exactly the same engine and 4WD.
And I don't live in some dodgy area either.
When I moved to MK from Rotherham my insurance on Touareg went down £500!

If you were talking about me, then thats because mine isn't a cupra. I have a 1.2TSi but just showing how my insurance has dropped from being 17 with no no claims to 19 with 2 years.

However, i can insure a BMW 320d m sport for £1200. Tempted to change... A 2.0 TFSI cupra was £4500.

Most of the quotes I was getting was coming out between £350-£500, there was some really extreme ones in the £2k mark. That's 6 years NCB, misses as 2nd driver, 12k miles a year, legal protection, and protected NCB. I reckon if I was to go with all the mods it would be between £600-£700.

My misses drives a 56 plate FR tdi and her insurance is a little less than my Cupra, low £300ish.

On a side note I used to live in Northampton, and when I moved to Worcester my premiums dropped by a big whack.

I'm with yee-haw-Elephant, and it cost me about £30 extra to declare having it lowered.

Not gonna renew with them though, I can lop about £200 off the price by going to greenlight.

Insurance for our R is around £800. Missus main driver , me named. me company car driver 25+ years, one claim in last 5 years ( other drivers fault) no points, GF one claim last five years (vandalism-some kn0b keyed car) otherwise 10+ years NCB. both over 30 ( ;) ) live in Brum in a ropey area. if we moved out to Burntwood (GF's parents) premium drops by £250, if we put Truro (relatives) address in premium is £350. oh yes and if we get married ( fat chance ) premium would drop by £150 !

Undeclared mods the part of the reason for high insurance? I believe its the amount of people claiming "whiplash" for every accident causes the high premiums. <Correct me if I'm wrong, but pretty sure I seen this on T.v Also, Northern Ireland have the highest Insurance prices out of the UK "No idea why".

My first years insurance was close to 5k on a 2010 1.2 clio, a whole 75bhp. Dropped to £1200 second year, sold it this year but would have been £800 odd for me to insure it this year.

If it was to do with mods it would be little :censored:'s with their 1.2 corsa with a 2ltr turbo engine in it lol!

For my first car, I was getting quotes of £2500-£3000 as a 19 year old for a newish one litre 106 or Saxo and that was 12 years ago! Ended up with a six year old 1.4 Corsa for £1500 a year fully comp. Got it down to half of that by year two on some young driver policy, but traded it in soon after.

I end up changing insurer every year now. They give you a good deal to get you in, then bump it right up for the second year. Partly why I'm not bothered about modifying, I don't want to give them anymore than they're already taking from me!

I'm with Greenlight Insurance and they told me at renewal time that if i did want to add a stage 1 remap to mine it would only cost me an extra £25!!!

I've currently got my R insured for a whisker under £600 fully comp, mods declared, protected NCB blah blah blah.

Rang admiral today, from today till the 13th march 2013, they would want £70 for suspension drop <5cm, £70 remap 0-10% or £230 for remap 11-25% increase.

Not bad! Admeral is who I'm with, same as last year.
Though they almost cancelled my insurance last year because they thought I was getting my licence taken off me LOL! Long story..

I guess not, considering I'm only 18 and 1 years no claims!

I was with admiral last year too, although they wanted £2200 renewal at first. A quick search on the meerkat saw me get elephant for £1250. Admiral matched it so with a 30 min search I saved £1000. Absolutely outrageous they rip people off so much!

Would they really be able to tell the difference between the stock induction system and an aftermarket one? I doubt it. I say if they're esthetical mods, declare them. Otherwise, leave them like that.

Insurance is a bizarre thing when my R came up for renewel my exisiting insurance company quoted me £1800 for a stage 2 car, I called Greenlight and declared all of the mods plus intended mods for stage 2+ and my insurance came in at £680, I bit their hand off lol. I would always declare all of the mods not only in case of an accident but also if the car was stolen I would want to be able to claim for all of my shiny bits lol

Any Admiral group insurance company take the piss though.

They want you to pay extra for the mods (even just physical ones) but they will only replace with standard parts in the even of an accident. So effectively you have to pay for a mod that isn't covered.
