Few questions where is the best place for young drivers to get insured for performance cars.

Ive read that the FR is a group 12 but everywhere I try they tell me I need to be 21. A friend of mine recommended tesco because she got insured on a group 14 citron saxo VTS from the age of 17. I just phoned them and they told me I need to be 21. So how can a 17 get insured for a group 14 but when I try for a group 12 at the age of 19 they tell me to bu**er off??

Any ideas would be good as im looking to buy the FR in the next week or so.

Personally, without sounding rude.

I don't think yu should be able to insure anyway, i have seen way too many people killed who's experience is not high enough to drive the car they were driving.

Do your time in a lower powered car like the rest of us to gain experience, and work your way up through the cars.

The sooner they bring in the motorbike style rules to cars the better. You need more experience on the roads before you get a powerful car to protect yourself and us.

Sounds harsh, but unfortunatly true, a 1.4 sport beezer would be worth looking at.

have to agree with antFR tho....
specially the bike style rules......doesnt quite stop the inexperienced mid life crisis peep from jumping on a Busa 1300!
do think its a good idea to drive less power first.......in a way thats why companies charge so much......only rich nutters wold pay some of the charges.......
a grand to insure a car for a yr..........more money than sense.

Girls are generally cheaper for insurance, and the saxo is only a 1.6 16v afaik whereas you're after a 1.820VT which is a much bigger engine.

I got a quote on a mk3 Cupra not too long ago and it was 1700, might end up buyin it later when im 19 tho if i've not got enough dosh in august so it'll go down more, was only the 2nd company i asked.

Buy a new fast car if you want mate, it's your choice, have fun :) if you've got enough money why not...

Unfortunately you get tarred with the same brush whether you are or not. :thumbd: I was quoted £2000 to insure a newish 1.1 Saxo or 106 when I was 17/18 - disgusting. Later that year I ended up paying £1400 to insure a 6 year old Corsa which was still a ripoff, but I desperately needed a car and had to go with it.

You can still hunt around I guess, although I have to say I'm not too hopeful for you getting something remotely decent.

I was paying £1700 last year for my c2 with a clean licence, no accidents & 0ncb with a years experience was 19 at the time. Am 21 and its made a huge difference to insurance - got quoted at £900 for a new cupra with my current insurers. Try adding your mum to bring it down, i added my mum to mine and it saved me £300 - im with bell direct and the specialise in drivers with 0ncb

Tesco are owned by Directline, and they don't like young drivers, that's why they'll not quote you.
When I was 18 and had a Calibra, Directline wouldn't insure me on it because they said anything 2.0 and you had to be 21. That said, now I wouldn't go anywhere else for insurance :)
Tesco are sh1te by the way :D

Or try the Diesel FR?

I know, I know some one had to mention DIESEL! But really, group 7 or 8 I think, and they arent slow, faster than a VTS anyway...

And there are always remaps :D

I, like everyone else have encountered this problem- Adrian flux are indeed quite good, they will no doubt get you a quote anyhow!
Like was mentioned, it is far better to get a cheap car and then upgrade to something better in a years time, you may find that you ultimatley end up with a better car then getting a run of the mill VTR style car. I pay £750 for a corrado VR which is group 18 with adrian flux and I'm 24 so not bad and only 2years NCB. My little bro is 17 and I'm getting him the cheapest seicento i can find- about £500, it's in insurance group 1, whereas your 206/saxo etc are group 2 and up and when your 17 that makes a difference, I also know an insurance broker which helps. Go with the Ibiza tdi sport- group 7 and remap it.

Try www.thisismoney.co.uk as they have a search engine to all the major insurance firms. You enter your details once and it gives you all the quotes at the same time. I do this every year for car and home insurance and it saves you time and money. The site is ran by Mail newspapers so is reputable.

I think what ANTFR said is fair enough.

i was paying 1400 for a 1ltr micra when i was17/18 - and was still paying 800 tpft on a 1.2 micra group 5 when i was 20. However im 21 now and only pay 700 fully comp (albeit high excess) on a 2.0 16v Cupra. Not bad.

However i still drive fairly sensibly, especially in bad conditions and built up areas, and i can thank my 4 years experience in a low power car for this.

my 2 cents.

the Diesel FR is group 8 and the diesel sport (both pd 130) is group 7, as far as I'm aware. But I've seen 02 Sports going for 6k now so would definitley go down that route.
