Intemittant stalling/cutting out when stopping

I've got a 2001 Leon Cupra 1.8T 20V.

I seem to have a intemittent issue with stalling/cutting out all of a sudden. It did it on the way to work this morning so thought I'd post as soon as I got in. It has done it 3 or 4 times in the last week/10 days.
Sometimes...and it is not that often (yet) when I pull up somewhere the car stalls/cuts out, just as the car is coming to standstill at places like junctions or roundabouts etc. It starts straight away no probs but that doesn't really help of course.
I can see the rev counter as I'm coming to a halt but before I've actually stop the revs drop and battery light comes on, telling me it's stalled/cut out. Infact this morning I noticed on a couple of occassions as I was pulling up at junctions the revs would drop to say 500-600rpm where it should be (I guess) and sometimes the revs would drop well below but not quite enough to stall/cut out.

I've done a search under stalling and cutting (as in cutting out) but didn't find anything obvious to point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I've posted a request in the Vag-Com section so hopefully get it scanned soon.
I hadn't reply since posting because it hasn't cut out since, until this evening.

Just thought I would add to this thread as I've just fixed this very similar problem on my car.

It was dropping LOW or even stalling (when cold) if I braked even a little harshly and then dropped the clutch to come to a standstill....was driving around by letting the revs fall to around 1200rpm before dropping the clutch...lots of early slowing for turns!

Changed the coolant temps sensor (was about £12 delivered) but not sure that was how I fixed it?! Took the car to nearest garage straight after changing sensor and paid £35 to use some new 'Snap-On' handheld machine which they used to align the throttle body (via VAG-COM - it was a multi system handset - £8000!) they also wiped a whole bunch of codes that were on the ECU (tho no EML) and checked the whole system of the car - battery etc.......and it has worked purrrrrrfect since.

So it was one of those 3 things.....coolant sensor, throttle body alignment or the wiping of the ECU....or maybe all three!

J

EDIT: it was the throttle body...alignment gave me a couple of days of working but then got bad again......did a full throttle body clean and got garage to do a TBA again for free and I am a week on with a truly sexy running engine!

Hi mate...how's it running? still okay.

I've had a nightmare few months with codes and rough running etc :(

In the last few months Ive changed a big chunky breather hose (to the right of the engine), the MAF and the front lambda sensor and still my lights come back.

Current codes are:-

16684
16685
16891
17544

After putting new lambda sensor in i cleared the codes and light stayed out for a few days..but lo and behold it came back on yesterday (with the above codes). It runs okay with light on but revs a bit high and has flat spots but if I clear the codes it runs worse, feels like it wants to stall when stopping and pops on deceleration sometimes..

I'm pretty disheartened at the mo..it just got through the MOT last week but I'm sorely tempted to get rid before I keep throwing money at it and guessing where the problem is.

Mine done exactly the same and after many hours of going mad it was the clutch position switch. Cost me £8 off eBay and never done it since.

Ill see if i can find the thread i started for it. :D

Thanks mate...although I dont have the actual stalling issues really, the revs drop etc but I'm sure it must be a vacuum issue but for the life of me I cant find any more hoses with issues.
I'm half tempted to put it into a local garage for them to investigate but dread the idea of throwing hundreds more at it purely on the off chance.

Yeah :(
I started this thread in 2009 when I had the stalling issue, cant remember how we fixed it but we did...
I came back to the forums and searched one of the codes I'm getting and this popped up so I thought I'd add to it (probably not the best way to do it)

I'd love to find someone local to me, farnborough, aldershot, camberley area and dont mind paying :)

not yet mate. I'm due to pick my bike up from garage this weekend at which time I'll be leaving the car with a friend/mechanic who is going to go through the hoses one at a time. No matter what I read I cant help feeling it is just a vaccuum leak but there's so many hoses lol.
I will update as and when I find anything :)
