when you put the front end back on, put the car on the ground - otherwise the chassis will change shape when the wheels are on the ground

Didnt do this for the inner frame! Have had my head in there and tightened the bumber on when on the ground, just attached, everything behind was tight though. Had a check all seems ok, nothing moved, broken, twisted or otherwise. I had to put it up to tighten bottom screws on bumber and sump cover.
All is back on and working! There was a lot of sludge in the bottom pipework, took all off except the TIP which was ok when stuck a rag into it. Rest had a thinck coating and so had the intercooler. Hot water, fairy liquid and it cleared it out a treat. Some crappy routing and restrictions in there, Will post a pic later on one pipe in particular, EGR to intercooler oulet.

I did dry it well. Let it drain, then used a garden blower that fits nicelt into the inlet holes to blow it through, got rid of all the water from it. Had a drive there in it and seems quieter and bit smoother on power. Next is EGR cleaning, goign to plug it tomorrow, vac hose that is. Info please: does the EGR flap stay open or closed when idling? Just so I know that im not pluging it in the open position allowing free flow of EGR gas.
my understanding is that it will revert to closed, the vacuum your blocking will stop it being able to open it anymore.
Mesh added to the top and bottom grilles, that old fire guard came in handy, pikey mod. looks the part, fine black hex mesh.
I fitted the catch can to the the rocker cover outlet through to can, then back into the t.i.p. Located can below airbox, not paid much time to better location yet. Is replaces that 5inch 90deg elbow on the rocker cover. I made the can myself from 3inch exhaust and made two cover plates, added a baffle inside to prevent blowback, a drain and a level guage. After 4k miles, approx, i caught about 150ml of oil residue.

No pictures of the install just yet, but it was tucked in under airbox, used battery clamp as fixing point. Hope this helps a bit.

nice on mate. time for a catch can me thinks. btw what size of pipe do we need for the pipe work?
I used 1" piping to fit my adaptors, this also fits the T.I.P but is slightly big on the rocker cover point, jubilee clip is sufficient though. Get proper black hose or reinforced clear tubing from B&Q or that, can buy by the metre in there. Need to find the drain hole cap now to get it back on!
Thanks googies! its shocking how much oil has got in there! will have to sort mine out!
I've put a litre in in top ups in 5k miles myself,wandering where it was going
think you'll find there is more loss of oil with remapped Alteas. turbo/boost kicks in at lower revs and thus sucks more crap out of the breather pipe. gonna get one fitted to mine soon.
