Interim service or full? With MOT.

So had my Leon since December and only done 2500k miles since then because of covid 19 leading to less working hours.

The last service was in July 2019 which was a full service and car has only done 15600 altogether. Is a full service needed or would an interim be okay just for millage? Read to get full service when doing 12k miles but obviously done nowhere near that.

Also I would usually just take it to Halfords auto centre where I took my Ibiza for its MOT only but think I’m going to start using Local garages or find a VAG specialist. If anyone can recommend a garage in the Sheffield/Rotherham area go a head.

Cheers

Hi, if it was me, i would find a local VAG specialist and just get an oil and filter change and a safety check etc? An MOT test would cover most of that anyway.

@Fortis; from your previous posts, your car looks to be a 2016 car. So assuming you’re on a time and distance service regime, it’s now due its forth service. Normally the odd numbered services (e.g. first, third and so on) are the small ones and the even numbered services (second, forth and so on) the larger ones. However, in view of the limited usage since the last service, I agree with @Rooster; an oil and filter change ought to suffice.

Did you have a brake fluid change carried out at three years? Service intervals for brake fluid change on VAG cars is first one at three years and then every two years after that, irrespective of mileage. So if the car didn’t have a brake fluid change at the last service, I’d add that to the list.

On my phone, so can’t see all the details about the car, other than it’s 3+ years old. In answer to the question, it depends upon why you require the service? Some things to consider below:

Is this the first MOT? i.e. if there are any advisories or failures, will you be looking for a repair under warranty (MOT can be complete 1 month before due date).

If older, were there any advisories last time around? i.e. is there any work that may be require to pass this time.

If the car is 3 years old, then it will need a brake fluid change (according to the maint schedule) and then every 2 years. I’ve changed the fluid in my Cupra at 17 months as I wasn’t too happy with the brake feel and it’s improved drastically. However, I expect the braking performance would have been sufficient to pass the MOT.

I guess the main issue is if you are intending to keep the car? i.e. service is purely to maintain the FSH, and thus future resale value.

If keeping car for the long haul, then I’d be tempted to MOT only, and service at a later time. The car has long-life oil, and this is In unlikely to have degraded in past year/mileage driven. Just make sure that you give the car a good run before you take it for it’s test, check tyre pressures and top up fluids.

For VAG garages in Sheffield, then Tec-Nick Autos and Autohaus Dolby are highly rated, they are both quite close to each other off Queens Road just past Centretainment or there's also German Autocentre next to Attercliffe Police Station, Attercliffe common.

Sometimes you need to use a bit of common sense. Your air filter isn't going to deteriorate over time, only with use, where as brake fluid will. Think about what items might need done and which ones won't and just get what you need done. If you're not confident about which items are due you could ask the dealer what items they do during the full service. That'll give you a list to work through.

Hello sorry for the late reply, so iv owned the car since December 2019 so unsure what previously been done on it and only driven the above millage, so I’ll have to check maintenance book. My car is also a manual of this helps too.

edit:

Above picture is current service and mot which states to do next service at 21k miles but not near that yet, so debating whether just to get an MOT then as soon as I get to 21k have a service or just get interim and mot done

Even though you have not hit the desired mileage you are still close to the year mark so at the minimum I would an get oil and filter change

@Fortis; looking at the details of what was done at the last service in the picture you’ve posted, your car it didn’t have a brake fluid change. If it’s a 2016 car (seem to remember you’d previously posted in another thread your car’s a 2016 1.4 Leon) it was due one last year.

On VAG cars, the first brake fluid change is due when the car’s three years old and then every two years thereafter. Brake fluid changes aren’t mileage dependent, so I’d get it done when you get the MOT done, along with the oil and filter change if you decide to get those done too. I’d get the oil and filter changed as well at the same time, as the service due date is either 21k miles or 05/07/2020 whichever is first as per the text in brackets at the bottom of the ‘Next service to be carried out’ box that the service tech wrote the next ‘Service due’ mileage and date in.

Brilliant sounds like it’d have to be a full service then for all that, don’t think interim includes all that

@Fortis - As far as I’m aware, the brake fluid change is treated as a separate job - separate from either an oil and filter change (minor / interim) service or an oil and filter change + inspection (major / full) service. At least that’s how it works with VW; the cost of the brake fluid change isn’t included in the price charged for a major service; it’d be charged for on top of the cost of the service, so I’m assuming that’d the same for Seat.

Ahh okay cheers. Had a few quotes, one included all three on interim but I think I might have to pay a tad more when I rock up but time will tell.
