Is it worth paying £150 more for Revo?

Thats the question. Looking at getting my FR remapped in 2 weekends time and was all set to just get a Revo remap however ive suddenly found it hard to justify the extra £150.

Is there really any difference in the map provided by Revo compared to many other companies.

Revo - £350

More BHP - £230 (sale on atm)

Super Tuning - £199 will fit at address

Remap Science - £199 will fit at address

Any advice guys?

I would say its more important that the tuner that is uploading the map is well recommended and knows what to check, rather than just slapping a generic map on and sending you on your way. Just make sure which ever software you do choose is reputable and there shouldn't be any real difference.
I had revo software on my previous car and was really impressed. That's not to say I wouldn't give another well known map a chance, especially if there was a good deal to be had.

will fit at address sounds great and all, but probably a generic map put on, I doubt they bring a truck with rolling road

I may sound stupid here but I thought that Revo remaps were generic? Also im pretty sure that the Revo dealer I was talking to would not have supplied a rolling road test. In terms of power gained I dont wanna get the max out of the car but just want to be able to notice the difference. If they say it will give 190BHP and it gives 180BHP im not going to be too pissed off.

They will all be generic maps, I had a golf gt tdi done on my drive but wouldn't do it again, didn't have any problems but comprised of 'head under bonnet for 2 seconds then flashing the ecu'

When I took my current car to get done they gave it a PROPPER once over on the ramps and before and after rolling road results, and they spotted a few potential problems

Have you asked more bhp who does their maps? Might be revo anyway..

More-BHP are quoting 194BHP which isnt much different to the quoted Revo and a saving of around £120. Wouldnt need to pay for them coming out to my address as they have a dealer quite near where I live so will just go there instead!!

"Generic map" is a generic term. Generic maps from different tuners can be dramatically different. The principles of tuning are the same but, there is no definitive way of tuning and differnt tuners do thing slightly differently and achieve similar results. All your cars start with a "generic map" setup by some Seat engineers.

Its shocking how many companies offer flash and go jobs by coming to your door.

Stick to reputable tuners, ideally those who will dyno the car and check that everything is doing what it should both before and after tuning is complete. A company with a good reputation is crucial.

The truth is, mapping is not something that you can always choose the cheapest option... you are dealing with your engine, turbo, transmission etc etc... and you will never see 2 maps the same from different tuners..some are very good, others are horrific and scary...

I agree, a dyno tends to pick up on issues you wouldn't normally pick up on, but the general consensus on the term "generic map" is commonly misunderstood, thus my previous post.

.. others are horrific and scary...

This unfortunately applies to some reputable tuners too, and not cheap options either.

Is the £150 deal actually a Revo map or their own custome one?

I'm kind of hoping the deal will still be on at the start of MAy, as I'll be up that neck of the woods for a wedding and thought it would give me a good excuse to get it done. :D

The £150 is their own one and doesn't include rolling road

i don't have any experience with others but revo and morebhp (jason), revo stage 1 was done by aldon automotive which didnt have rolling road was great very aggressive but was gutless top end to be honest. morebhp i went down there 3 times mapped my first leon cupra , he also didnt have a rolling road but did log my car on the road before and after, which he notice my maf was that healthy and that post cat lambda sensor was out, my g/s reading was low for stock 180 lc it was reading 135 g/s on wot which is about 168-170bhp on the road it took him 3 hours to map my car went away with fueling spot on 12.0:1 on WOT and g/s reading was 167 g/s after car felt great not as aggressive as Revo but was still really good

I thought so.

Anybody any experience of it on a PD130?

I have this one. There is a HELL of a lot of torque. It changed the feel of the car loads. Downside is that because my car is quite old (04 - done 75k now) the clutch slips when booting it under 2k revs. But many have assured me this is purely down to it being an old clutch so if I replace it with a new one of the same standard it'll be fine.

I will get it done at some point but to be honest, it doesn't bother me not booting it under 2k :)

When I say I don't boot it, I mean I don't floor it. That doesn't mean I don't accelerate quickly ;)
