id buy a cupra as a family car, its the same size as the others, just has a little oompf thats all.
Well ive a wife, a 4 month old and a nearly 3 year old so its gonna be used as a "family" car!
Rear seat cover will be on order soon though for the kids as will a boot protector (some on ebay from Germany that look good).
Had considered a neww Civic but its only 3 door and 4 seater so thats no good!

Just a small point. It's only the Civic Type S and Type R which are 3 door cars. All the other models have 5 doors.
I'm sure the Leon will be an excellent family car and probably less claustrophobic in the back than the Civic.
You're much better off with a Nissan X-Trail for a family - There's a cracker for sale on eBay, see my signature below. LOL
I have a test drive booked for Saturday to establish the same thing, why not do the same......I have told them I am bringing the pram and other bit and want some time to try and establish if it's big enough + a road test.
If it is too small the Altea may be an option

I'd say it certainly doesn't look like a family car in the way that a 5 door Golf does (for example). But it has enough seating capacity and leg room to be a 'family' car. We regularly use ours with four adults without any issues at all. No dent in performance as far as I can tell either with all that lovely torque

You can put a child seat in the centre rear seat and still get two adults either side (ours is a maxi-cosi priori XP, it has corners "notched out" of the base so you can still access other seatbelt buckles, *every* other seat we tried covered them rendering the adjacent seats useless).
Boot is a bit small though (narrow), so the buggy only just fits (it's actually a smaller boot than my Wife's Honda Jazz which is supposedly equivalent to the Ibiza !).
and to quote my 2 year old... "Daddy's car goes fast!"
