Is this a Write off?

Looking for anyone thats been in these situations before has anyone had that panel damaged and was it fixable....

P.S the damage was caused by a lorry wheel that came off on the motorway and bouced ove the central reservation and landed on the back of my car then head on into the car behind....

If so might be a repair job but it all depends on the assessor

Depends on the value of the car tbh and how the insurance want to repair it ... a decent dent specialist and painter would sort that out for £300-£400 ... but the insurers will likely cost replacement of rear quarter and that is very expensive.

It is repairable but all depends on labour charge as to if the insurance write it off,might be worth taking it to a body shop & see what they have to say,if they can at a good price might be worth buying back off insurance if they do write it off

yeh it is a LCR and its being repaired by BMW picking it up in the morning and droping me off a new Mini cooper s... i'll be pi**ed if they do write it off.

Yup if BMW are repairing it I would say it could possibly be a write off

Shouldn't be a write off tbh. a rear 1/4 and paint, total about 1.5k at most tbh.

Easy fix mine was loads worse bent in the boot etc , a new rear quarter to buy is 120 quid for a body shop

You can always buy it back if they do right it off, theyll pay you out then you buy it back theyll deduct the money from your payout then get it repaired yourself.

not always the case mate i wrote off my car they paid out said from the off that i wanted to retain the car being a car repairer myself!

eventho i had no intention of repairing the car was gonna strip for bits and make a few extra quid off it.

but they replied that they have a partnership with co-part who sell damaged cars and if they pay out they come and collect it as they buy off the insurance so bit gutted there

Ok most cases you can but it back, i bought my gf's golf back at half the payout price. I also know a few others that have done the same. But supose it depends on the insurance company, its still worth finding out. But as i say i very much dought they'll write that off.

in there estimate will be

brand new quarter panel (must be from the dealer!) wont get copy panels
the labour charge and this wont be back street garage prices be in region of 75-100 a hour
to take rear quarter off and put back on your looking at 10 hours plus about 6hrs for paint /prep maybe few more if have to blend into adjacent panel

so u be looking at £1500 quid in labour alone
and prob 250-400 for new quarter (off the top of my head dunno how much are from the stealers but bet aint cheap)

u in big cost of the car

personaly i would pull the dent out fill ,sand, refinish

but insurance is another game because if filler cracks or defects due to filler/repair process u will want it sorting again so they like to replace panels

No danger they'll write that off, seen alot worse in bodyshops thats been repaired.

And I've seen cars written off for a lot less. You really can't second guess it. Different companies have a different threshold for writing a car off, and depending on the assessor and what mood they're in will have more of an effect than what the damage is!

Are you in the trade? Just from my experience those labour rates are miles off. That's what they charge joe public, but insurance companies will not pay anymore than £35/hr iirc. It used to be £22 back in 2007

more than likely tbh as insurance dont do things by halfs i mean not like u going into body shop and going tart that up for me for a few hundred quid and your happy! but its up to the bloke that assess the damage but think it could be a write off because if they replace the rear u be in at least 40% of the total value of the car and they class it as beyond economical repair.

the pic he took looks like the quarter has been filled before at some point before not to sure difficult to tell from the picture

i would try and buy it back and repair it tbh wouldnt cost more than 500-600 in a normal bodyshop not inflated insurance places

i mean this is how stupid insurance is

my sis had a 54 plate mgzr few years back they wrote it off for damage to wing and bumper was really minor said to my sis ill have it back so buy it back she said ok

phone call came threw u can buy it back £120 great! i said had a wing and bumper in my garage painted up for £40

the cheapest 54 plate car i ever bought grand total of £160
