Was just driving along today when the car started juddering slightly when idling. Then when I start to accelerate the engine warning light starts flashing (far right middle row of the dash display, right?) and the juddering increases.

The light goes off when I've stopped but then comes on again as soon as I put my foot down again.

There seems to be some loss of power although it still accelerates.

When I got home and and got out the car with the engine running, the exhaust sounded REALLY low (deep) and juddery along with the engine.

Any ideas what's happening? :wtf::confused: I only had it serviced 2 months ago!!

Yep sounds like coil pack to me too, although there is a possibility of it being the MAF.

You need it vag-com'd to confirm mate.

Yeah, probably. Sorry people, did the whole 'panic before searching' thing

Just wondering whether to get the AA out to save me hassle or get coil pack from dealer - not sure which will be more expensive

Left a reply in your other thread, but will elaborate here :D

Coils 1 & 2 are easy to change, engine cover off and then unplug them. Coil 3 involves removing the engine cover and one 10 mm nut before moving a black box out the way before unplugging.
Coil 4 is the above plus removing the bracket the black box bolts onto.

The RAC man may well be able to tell you which CP it is quicker than you can check them yourself.

If the car sounds like a subaru, then its coil packs, to check pull ,each out 1 by 1. if the engine dosnt judder it must be that coil pack, or you can do it via vag

get aa out mate, try to source a coil pack yourself, internet 25 quid, call aa and theyll diagnose it as the coilpack andd tell you which cylinder its on.

give them the coilpack and theyll change it for you, 10-15 min job, dependant on which one it is.

job done, solved for 25 quid.

p.s, dont drive it anymore you could flood the cat, then it will deffo not be 25 quid

My engine management light isn't staying on, it just flashes up for about 10 seconds, but the symptoms match the above.

What else could it be if it's not coil pack? MAF?

Assuming it is a coil pack...is it still ok to drive carefully? I need to limp it down to the garage.

I did with mine, garage was about 2 miles down the road though so wouldn't be tempted by much more than that.

my car doesnt judder assuch, but i do feel like iv lost some power...and the light flashed when i put the foot down ...does that mean my coilpack is gone too?or maf? first time coming across this so help would be appreciated!!!!!!

which light flashed? not esp / traction control was it?

maf either totally fail and bring up a fault light, or play up which doesnt bring up any lights,

coil failure is possilble. although firstly id check they are all pushed down properly.

but in short without some more info it could be alot of things.

to be honest i dont have much info to give. it was the engine light (looks like a tap, bottom right side of display), car loses boost through the rev range, isnt holding it well...accelerates but it doesnt feel as fast as it should.
and i was going a bit flat out when the light started flashing so i backed off for the rest of the journey.

i had a service 7k miles ago and changed the spark plugs, but im guessing coilpacks are something different.my cars due a full service the now,so hopefully get the stuff checked....

I think i have this coil pack issue on mine, happened tonight, was wondering how long it would take as i have owned the car over 2 years now.

Set off from lights giving it a bit upto 3rd, when i backed off i felt a judder and what i thought was a flat spot, put it in 4th and backed right off, seemed ok until i touched the pedal then it sounded like an old vw beetle, hardly any power and engine light flashing,i decided to crawl home about 15mins drive.

When home i got my vag com plugged in and this is what came up-

5 Faults Found:
16804 - Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0420 - 35-00 - -
17695 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249): Open Circuit
P1287 - 35-00 - -
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-00 - -

P0303 - 35-00 - -
16685 - Cylinder 1: Misfire Detected
P0301 - 35-00 - -
Readiness: 0000 0000

Now the 1st fault i get occasionally anyway since the exhaust was fitted so not worried, i had the rocker cover gasket replaced last week and i am now wondering if the problem could be linked??? i have got the AA coming out in the morning to check things over :(
