Looks like I am the first to do it. Was visiting the mother in law, the first time in the Leon after many years of Bizas. I drove up behind her Volvo and lined it up as usual, forgetting the Leon's wider, and just touched the front left on the kerb, f**k never hit a kerb before, reversed back right away and checked the alloy, which was marked in 3 places, all on the unpainted side bit. Got home and got out the wet and dry paper to remove the worst marks, then used the bikers old favourite "Solvol Autosol metal polish" and after a lot of polishing you can hardly see a mark. Is the unpainted bits lacquered or are they bare metal, as I am still to polish with the superfine showroom polish and wonder if I have to relacquer the wheel.
 
I think you need to seal it from the elements before water gets in. Clear nail varnish might do it in an emergency. Dreading the first kerbing on these, but it is bound to happen at some point.

Not good, horrible feeling when it happens. I wish Seat had the foresight to offer a more friendly to look after alloy on the 280. The 265 has normal painted alloys!! Good luck sorting it out...

It's horrible doing that, when I've done it I can't look straight away (think thats denial!!). :) Hope you get it sorted and it looks ok.
 
Sadly I noticed that my front right was kerbed 4 days after pickup (3 weeks ago) when I was sealing them with wax. What eats me more is that I don't remember hitting any kerbs within those 4 days so I have a horrible feeling that it was there before pickup, which make its worse as I was very pedantic about checking the car before I drove off. It's not big thankfully I'll get some pics if you want.

I havn't got around to doing anything with it yet but a couple of friends have recommended laquer, just to help out myself as well as stormer will this http://www.halfords.com/motoring/pa...kits/halfords-chip-scratch-repair-pen-lacquer do or is it just the same as clear nail varnish?
 
Cheers guys, have just put wheel wax on it at the moment, but do have a clear lacquer stick that came with the Phantom Black, that I had for the last car. Looked at the wheel this morning, and if you did not know anything was there you can't see it till your right down at the wheel.
 
Yeah it is a real knock down scratching the wheel. On my FL FR-TDI I had scratched 2 wheels during trips to Italy where the kerbs at the toll stations are huge.
I was on full operational lease and turned the car in without any remarks. Just lucky I guess.

Front right, absolutely no clue when it happened as I'm extra careful and didn't feel anything... Annoying but nevermind! :(
 
I had a vxr with similar polishes wheels, your on the right track with the repair. Wet and dry to smooth it out, then a metal polish followed by lacquer (use spray can and mask off wheel well - also blow it into the joining areas to blend in. Might not be 100% perfect, but loads better than a kerbd one.

I have done most of the repair, (just to use the superfine polish) but I did read somewhere that some custom builders are advocating not putting on the lacquer as it will at some point peel or be chipped. They suggest leaving the alloy finish just polished as the polish does have wax in it anyway, and then sealing with a good alloy wheel wax, and repeating when the car is washed. They say that as the alloy is like a mirror finish, the lacquer does not stick like it does to a painted wheel.(Painting is a fix that a lot suggest and cover all the cut alloy) They say that just getting tyres fitted can be enough to chip the lacquer on the mirror finish, so if you go down that road, regular doses of the polish and wax have to be applied. Some of the alloy wheel repairers say on their sites, that to try and extend the finish that even without any damage the wheels should be washed and waxed twice a week, as it is only a matter of time before they get the dreaded milky lines.:D

Maybe I'm second... bloody truck unloading on double yellows on a single lane street, had to squeeze past him and just nicked the kerb, sounded worse than it looks but still.

Kerbs in Central London are high and nasty. Why can they not round the top outer edges off?

A few pics of the repair I've done, still a bit of polishing to go, but if I close my eyes and run my finger round the rim you can't feel any repair. I have 3 separate bits fixed, that to see I had to get the camera so close I should have used macro. None of my workmates who parks next to my car has noticed the repaired bits.:D
