Hello all,

Having a problem with my remote fob - a few days ago it suddenly stopped working, although the little red light still activates. The night before it worked fine and from many metres away.

I've changed the battery, makes no difference.

I've tried the re-sync'ing procedure in the manual, which states:

1) Unlock car from driver side door using non-remote key

2) Turn IGN on using non-remote key

3) Lock car via driver side door using remote fob (but not remotely, of course)

WITHIN 30 SECS:

4) Operate LOCK button once on remote fob, indicators will flash (THIS DOES HAPPEN, so remote works and so does car receiver)

5) Operate UNLOCK button once for more than 2 secs, vehicle will unlock confirming sync.

It's that last bit that doesn't work. Nothing happens when I press & hold the UNLOCK button. I've tried 2+ secs, press/release, 10+ secs hold, everything!

Anyone got any ideas? Perhaps it's just the UNLOCK button that's not working, but buttons rarely go from 100% fine to totally broken like that?

Cheers,
Richard.

It's an '08 plate Stylance. I do have VAG-COM so can try that option as a last resort!

I've got a 58 K1, had the same issue. Tried re-syncing it but to no avail. Ended up having to order a new centre part for the fob, luckily under warranty though.

:)

When you say you had the same issue, do you mean exactly the same issue? Our Leon is out of warranty by about a fortnight!

I'm having an issue with mine on a 56 model too. The car will lock off the fob and also open the boot off the fob but wont open the doors, any ideas? I've just tried the resyncing instructions above but to no avail.

Just a wild guess here but perhaps the micro-switch associated with the unlock function on the remote fob is kaput? That would explain why it seems to synchronise ok but won't function to unlock the doors. Not sure how you resolve it if that is indeed the issue

Im having the same issue, nothing happens when i hit the unlock buttons... did u sort urs?

I've got the same issue as riph72 - remote stopped working so I tried the re-sync from the manual (as described in the first post). Step 5 of rsync didn't work when I tried it either. I've got no access to VAG-COM and the car is well out of warranty.

Is there a procedure to 'erase' the key pairing, so I can try this again?

I had the same problem...I ended up buying a secondhand fob from ebay and swapping the electronic part over and then coded it up by using the spare key method. As long as you get the same Mhz fob (most Audi, VW, Seat ones are the same and it states it on the key when you pull it apart) then it will work fine. Remember that the transponder for the immob is in the flip key half so you don't need to worry about that.

don't just go buy 1 because it has the same frequency. It's the part number that's important. Also Audi have their own remotes which don't work with Seat, Skoda or VW

a 2008 Leon uses 1k0979753G remote. I get at least half a dozen calls every week from people that have bought 2nd hand VAG keys from Ebay wanting me to program them.

When i ask them if they've bought the correct part number none of them have a clue & have just bought 1 that either looked the same or has the same frequency then it turns out it's the wrong remote they've bought so is useless to them.

You may be right due to being in that trade but from my experience I purchased a VW one and it worked fine. I checked this with Dave at Sere to make sure it would work and he confirmed that it was the MHz is the important part.

As I said before Seat, VW & Skoda share the same remotes. For example a 2005-09 Octavia & mk5 Golf use the same remote as a 2006-08 mk2 Leon. The 2009 Onwards Leon uses a different part number remote which even though it has the same MHZ won't work with the earlier mk2.

I've tried programming all sorts of remotes into various VAG so I could just order a couple of different types instead of having to stock every part number

With the mk1 2002-06 Leon you have more choice as you can use 2 or 3 button remotes & there's 2 different part numbers for both that will work with that year range

I'm having the same problem with my wife's altea. The handbook gives the same method of resynchronising. The lights flash at the lock button part, but nothing happens after that. I've bought two used key fob circuit boards and the same thing happens with those as well.
Did any of you manage to resolve the issue? Car booked in at the garage in a week's time, but hoping to solve it before then!

Just had this with mine would lock and unlock boot but would not unlock doors bought a new duracell battery off eBay for 99p all works fine now.

My fob refused to unlock, tried a new battery without any luck. I bought a new button block from ebay (£24) and sync'd that to the car.

With that sorted I spent some time with the old unit, cleaned ALOT of dust out and it came back to life. It could be everyone who changes the battery is just overcoming an increased resistance caused by dust build up on the circuit board.

Did you manage to resolve the remote c/l problem?
I'm having exactly the same issues...:(

Can someone explain how you can start the car with the non remote key. If I try and do that the car alarm goes off immediately.

I don't know how can I resync the key without setting the alarm off and without having to use the non remote key.

I've just bought a facelift fr and the remote key looks proper tatty, what do I need to make it look new again?

How much are new fobs from Seat?

I was going to order one of those key covers from eBay but you can still see the tatty badly worn buttons.
