Well I now have the car but as usual when buying a car Im off to a flying start the central locking wont work on the car. It will work from inside with the button and Im sure there the same fuse. The key has worked once and never again.
I have changed the battery and tbh Im pretty stuck with any other ideas what to do. Will get vag com on it in a moment and see what faults the car has.

Other than that though the car is pretty much spot on.

Run over it with VAG-COM and try the recode feature too (Search through the flip key thread).

When you press the button on the key - does the red LED come on, might just be a dead battery?

Glad you like the new car, and welcome to the dark side that is "TDI" :)

I'm not any expert with this, but I guess something might be up with the sensor for the remote fobs ... no idea where it is though.

I get the climatronic one - wouldn't worry about it.

The intermittent central locking one though - that might be related to the issue your having.

The battery & alternator ones could be caused by a loose connection or something drawing too much power from the battery.

Clear them all, then run a scan again this time next week and see what ones have come back... some random ones popping up every now and then isn't a major issue.

fixed it I think, the lad who had the car before me had the wiring in the headunit the wrong way round. Once I swapped that over the cnetral locking started working :S

That's a bit random! Headunit replacement = Near side central locking defective.

Good to hear that's sorted now though! Out of interest, where did you pickup your VAG.COM cable and software? Where does it connect into the car?

Cheers.

Cheers Guinness, thats interesting to remember. Might have to invest in that gear myself!
Take it the Port is in the same location for all Mk4's (no matter what the engine size/spec)?
what else can you set then from the software

Suppose you also have a laptop, so its mobile and you can get it out to the car.
Or using the PC, you've need a MASSIVE long cable! :D
