Keys locked in car... by garage

I took my car to a garage near me yesterday to get some work done on it and they kept it there overnight. Then this morning I got a phone call from them asking if I knew my car locked it self and how can they get it because they'd left the keys in there :(

Anyone know any tricks to break into my car?

Bit stupid of them leaving keys in car over nite imo

Yeh that's what I thought, they said they do that with all the cars which makes me think what if some one breaks in there. That's a lot of free cars.

Could always try the wedge in the top of the door. May give you just enough to hook the keys out with something. AA did that with a old escort van I had. As long as you don't go mad with the wedge it shouldn't damage the door.

Get them to call out an auto-specialist locksmith. They can use a couple of methods, but the obvious one has already been mentioned - obviously they are experienced enough to know how to do it without damaging anything.

Probably not wise to document to many ways to break into a car on a public forum...

And how did they do it - did they break in? I'd check VERY carefully for damage BEFORE you leave.

Yeh I will and if they've broken anything there either fixing it or paying for it to get fixed elsewhere.

so can i presume that your door lock micro switch doesnt work?

If they unlocked the car, opened the drivers door, put keys in car and shut door, then the car will lock itself if your door lock micro switch does not work. Reason being the ECU will think that you have unlocked the car and then nobody has accessed the car. It locks itself as a security function after a short period incase you had inadvertantly unlocked the car.

I'm guessing it doesn't because the interior light doesn't come on when you open the drivers door, but it does when you open the passenger door.

And as for the garage they took the lock and the handle off the door, but now the key won't unlock the door (only works with the central locking) so I'm gonna have to take it back for them to fix the lock.

how did they take the lock and handle off isnt this secured via two bolts in the back and one bolt in the side of the door ?

I have no idea, they just told me they took the lock barrel off. And opened it manually.

Reading through the forum I might not bother getting the garage to sort the lock out and just delock my car. And invest in a spare key just in case.
