How easy is it ti change com ports ( for future no-how)

I thought you'd ask that! ;) OK, so I've just plugged in my lead and it's popped up on COM10 (absolutely useless!). So I do the following;

In 'devices and printers' right click on the USB <-> Serial device and click properties.
Click on the hardware tab, that should show 'USB serial convertor' and 'USB serial port (COM10)'.
Select the serial port one, and click properties.
In the properties window, click on change settings. Don't go to port settings from here, you won't get the required access.
That should generate a new properties window, which is pretty much the same as the last one. However, if you now go into port settings, the advanced button actually gives you the advanced settings. And the top drop down menu gives you the com ports and tells you which ones are available.

If you get a message saying 'you must have write privileges in the registry' then you've not clicked on the change settings button.

So yes, not exactly as easy as XP, but eventually you can get there.

thanx guys helping me , the cable is now working very good :funk: ,,,
i contact with the suppler and sent to him the issue ,, he inform me that i should do like follow ,, it was not far than u guide me ,,,, thanx to all of you at all

Connect an appropriate interface between the computer and the car.
Turn the car's ignition switch ON. No need to start the engine.
Start the VCDS program:
Click [Options] and select the correct communications port.
Use [Test] to confirm that the program can use the port and find the interface.
Then [Save].
Now Play. Make sure the software can reliably access all the control modules that it should in your car. See ourApplication Charts. Query Fault Codes from some modules.

Notes:
Release 11.11 works with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit)
Windows 95, 98, ME, and NT4 are no longer supported.
Release 11.11 must be used with a HEX-, KEY-, KII-, or Micro-CAN "high-tech" Interface.
It does not work with any third-party interfaces or some of our older "low-tech" interfaces.
If you're a registered user and have an older low-tech interface, you should consider our
interface upgrade program.
If you're not ready for an interface upgrade, you'll have to use VCDS-Lite instead.
The default installation folder is C:Ross-TechVCDS
It is essential NOT to install in the Program Files tree in on systems running Windows Vista or 7.

i can now do scan to the lavatory 1m1 hahahaha ,,
it's depends on the {chip inside} the cable ,,, not from where u r purchase it ,, the chip inside must be FT232RL ,,, thats all

thanx
