Just want to share this pic of a k04 turbo I just took off talk about wastgate creep enjoy lol

Yer god knows how it happened compleatly warped the waste gate housing.
I did a cf check on the car a while back no signs of her Knocking off the scale.But then again cfs don't tell all.

Mapped K04's run high egt's tho don't they?
maybe its had a bad map, or turned up too much, maybe even timing jumped a tooth? Or very restrictive exhaust down stream? Collapsed cat etc? Or plain had it c*** kicked in all the time! Lol do you know the car well?

Yer I know the car fairly well it's compleatly standard so the comment on restricted cat could be it.
My thoughts are the cam sensor has been flashing up on vagcom for a while but I'm sure that's not designed to seriously advance timing under failer, so pretty stumped.
Has to be machanical.

The s3 has a egt probe connected to the turbo housing but don't understand it's purpose it connects to a black box which i am guessing senses high egt.

I don't know about the egt sensor, so its Something I can't comment on, but it must have been hella hot in there to soften that much metal! Have a gander down stream see if you uncover anything. Something mechanical could be at fault, timed wrong, or the vvt failing horribly, is it planned for bigger turbo? Or just a refit?

Thanks for the comments mate helps a lot. As you say ill check the cat / downstream flow.
I think the vvt is set by a cam chain on the head. But I'm not sure on this.
I just can't see how this standard ko4 can run so dam hot. Never seen anything like this on my hybrid ko3.
S3 is only running 11psi !!!!!

std wideband k04's run very hot.. egt cars run lambda 0.953 on max load until it gets 920'c at which point fuel dump occurs for egt protection. they do run hotter.
retarded timing will cause high egt's

I see this red deposit on mine.. runs on shell Vpower always.. seems a colour it leaves behind thats all..

heat is what has damaged this particular one
