hi guys,

i have a 1.6 16v leon and have owned the car for over a year now, about 2 months after i bought the car it spluttered and stalled, switched it back on and EML light came on. ive got a cheapy scanner off ebay so i scanned it and came up with the code for pre cat lambda sensor, also got it onto a top of the range scanner to get a live feed and that to was giving up bad sensor as the voltage was everywhere lol i replaced the sensor with a new genuine one and EML is still on and wont go off for longer than a minute :( its been like since i changed the sensor nearly a year ago and hasnt skipped a beat since so hasnt really bothered me tbh.

ive been doing some digging on it and have come across it could be a bad sensor earth?

now my question is, does anybody know where the hell the earth is? could i just snip the earth cable and put a new one in and ground it else where or will this not work? not sure if its connected to the ECU or not?

any help would be appreciated :)

The Lambda sensors earth directly to the ECU,
I would advise disconnecting the battery before working on the Lambda sensor or associated wiring.

Its quite easy to damage the ECU working on the Lambda wiring, Even having a faulty lambda wire can cause a short in the ECU..

I talk from experience, A good mate had to replace his ECU after the wiring to the Lambda got pulled out a bit.

It blew the grounds in the ECU which incidently is the same ground/earth that the drive-by throttle uses.

I had a feeling it went straight to the ecu. Guess I'll be leaving that well alone! Lol
