Last Ditch Attempt

Despite having done the 02M gearbox shim mod, changing the oil for OE Seat stuff, putting solid bushes on the linkages, and a reset of the linkage cables, the gearbox in my 2004 LCR is still crap.

Now it is actually a good gearbox, it hasn't, and never has had any of the whines or associated noises that some people are getting, its just a bit clunky and un-positive when changing gear, especially at low speed or around town.

Its done just over 70,000 miles.

Is there any last thing worth trying? Because its really ruining the driving experience for me, and the car will be getting sold or traded in if I cannot get to the bottom of it.

Hi mate. Sorry to hear about your gearbox issues. My 2004 lcr gearbox is crap when cold and abit clunky at low revs. I change gear very slowly at low revs and find that it helps.

I would never sell because of this, you sound very disheartened. If you love the car like i love mine then have the box rebuilt. Mine is on 91000 and i know it will be rebuilt soon. I think the gearbox is the weak link in a otherwise brillant car.

Mine is an 54 plate and it's clunky when it's cold between first and second!!! I've had a new clutch, fluid but still clunky I think I'm use to it now so it never really bothers me now!! If you can afford it get it rebuilt hopefully that will cure your problem

Yep. First to second is shocking. I have even double clutched it couple time. Still crap lol

Yeah mine only does it whilst it's cold so maybe 5 minutes then it's fine must just be a Leon problem

It would seem I'm not the only one with problems then!?

Is it an inherent and accepted design fault of the gearbox? Surely they cannot have been like that from new?

A few years ago I had a Fabia VRS that had the 6 speed box in it, and it was a lovely gearbox, I cannot understand how these can be so bad.

Its certainly drivable, but having to nurse it into gear, especially when trying to 'make progress' is becoming a bit boring and ruining what is essentially a fun car.

To be honest I had to 306 6 speeds and there gearbox was worse than this ok maybe cause it was French lol but they were a lot worse
