Oh no, literally compared to the standard?

Never tried the factory bulbs in anger but even in clear conditions it is obvious that the factory bulbs throw more useful light to the front/side of the car.

Maybe it is the design of the FR fog lamps? The fog lamps on my Skoda Citigo (same lamp units as the Scirocco and Amarok) are much better than those on the Leon.

I bet there is not as much thought go in to the design as we would like to think. The lighting company have to squeeze in a unit in to the space given held to the constraints of the shape and design of the car.

Shame because the units are Hella brand, not the cheaper brand the LED headunits and rear clusters are. Nasty and cheap compared to previous VAG cars I've owned. All part of saving money.

If anyone wants to try this and report back here with the results that would be very much appreciated. :)

They are the same price as the H8 35W bulbs (for MTec bulbs from HIDs Direct they are, at any rate).

Apparently filament positioning can be critical and Osram do this very well. The OE bulbs in my car were made by Osram in Germany. The MTec bulbs are almost certainly made in China and I'm pretty sure that the glass bulb itself is a bit wonky on the set that I got. Osram offer "Cool Blue" H8 35W bulbs at £25 a set. Wonder if they are any good? They also have "Cool Blue" H11 55W but these are not road legal in the UK.

Just looked at my Mtec ones, both are wonky. One badly.

The Osram ones of course are a decent brand. They say cool blue inrense @ 4200k. Amazon for less than £20. Maybe these would be a better bet!

At £20 they are definitely worth a punt. Another little project for the Christmas break. ;)

Just sent hids direct a strong email. Had them weeks but told them they are going in the bin! At least they were only 12.99

Just to give you a bit of extra info on the Osram cool blue.. They give off a more crisp white light onto the road but still light the reflector up with a yellow tinge. 4000k is less than 500k higher than some of the normal halogen bulbs.
I've not read the whole thread but if your looking for something with a blue tint then you need Osram cool blue hyper or the equivalent Phillips diamond vision if available.

Thanks aiming for closest to led headlights approx 5000k. White. These cool blue are apparently close to xenon/hid.

Sorry, my mistake in the kelvin rating.
My explanation still stands though. I fitted some H7 Osram cool blue intense bulbs in a BMW 1 Series and the light they emit on the road is 'whiter' but the actual colour the lamp looks is still yellow.

Therefore they are highly unlikely to match the LED's in the headlights.

I am aware the hyper and diamond vision are deemed as illegal, but so are any non factory fitted LED's... I.e. if you fit LED's in the fog lights to match the LEDs in the headlights, which will not produce the correct beam pattern nor be approved and E marked.

Maybe a bit better than standard yellow. Not sure of the kelvin rating of the factory ones.

Good point with the leds.
