LED hightlights

I came from a 1997 306 GTi and the lights were not very good at all.
Fitted Osram nightbreakers and they were a lot better but not great by todays standards.

As much as did not like the look of them, I bought some angel eyes, fitted more H1 nightbreakers, and replaced the yellowish leds in the rings with clean white led's and the light output was so much better.

Still not a patch on the clean light from the Leon leds which I am more than happy with :)

As for the Audi LEDs, stuff like the A6 (and its competition) have much more advanced lighting than the humble Leon which probably give an equivalent light output to 35W xenons.
And now please google something like "Audi A6 LED headlights" and check.
See it now? YES - it's exactly the same as in Leon! Just the pattern is a bit different, due to different headlight shape. It even uses the same amount of LEDs.
If you check the same for A8 (2011 model) it's also the same, just has one LED more.
In new A7 they are using some new tech, but most of Audis has the same LED lights Leon has.

I must be wrong then? I suppose you also believe that all LED torches use the same LED, the same driver ciruits and are all the same brightness...?!

One of the main reasons why I went for the Leon instead of a Golf were LED headlights vs. Xenons. I pick up my Leon on monday and I really hope I won't be dissapointed...coming from bixenons on BMW E91.

Coming from a mk2 with halogens I think the LEDs are awesome. Previous to that we had a 2008 mini cooper S with xenons and they weren't up to much. Guess I haven't tried a car with good xenons to compare though. The auto high beam on the 280 is also a fantastic feature.

On a dark road in rainy weather, I think the led has low performance. Driving the same road in my wife's Mii with standard halo lights, is just as good if not better. Driving the same road, but in dry conditions the led is far better. I don't know what it is with led in dark and rainy combined, but I would say it could be better

I love the LED's in my Leon, I have come from a Fiesta ST that I had thrown uprated xenon's in and the LED is a much crisper light that the ST gave off (Even with them being those blue tinted 'Ice White' bulbs) and I would say a little brighter. It isn't like driving with the sun following you (Like it is in a friends Merc AMG A Class) but i would say a litte better than halo's.

But the ting that wins me over is that they look different on the road to others, on the car they look clean and bright without blinding people and I also like that the pattern the LED's are layed out in seems pretty unique (At the moment anyway) and you can always spot a Tech pack leon from the front just by the headlights in the dark.

There are two adjusters one for vertical and the other horizontal just like on any other car. I guess you want the horizontal adjuster. I'll look it up and tell you which one. I believe they are under a plastic cap

Great - I assumed this would somehow be possible as well using vcds tool (which I don't have), but it is not something of which I know.

Nope, i don't believe all LEDs and LED drivers are the same. Far from it.
But i know, that early LEDs in Audis and the ones in Leon are the same.

I was out in the dark and rain last night and was checking out all the other cars lights after reading this (sad, I know).

The difference that I saw between my LEDs and normal headlights was that the LEDs seem to throw an even spread of light on quite a wide area in front of me whereas the normal lights generally had more concentrated pools of light thrown on the road just in front of the car.

So I guess that could lead to the perception is that there's 'more' light from the normal lights when in fact it's just more concentrated on a specific spot in front of the car.

I also get the feeling that my LEDs are levelling themselves a bit higher than where most would people set them manually, again meaning that there's less light being perceived on the road directly in front of the car.

That's my theory anyway!

I can buy into that - thanks for testing it and putting more words on it - sounds very much like my experience.

But no doubt that when you have clear weather, also cold with snow, I would prefer LED over normal light in any case.

I found this on another site: But A/c to the manual (See post 37) this is completely wrong

[:@] Remove of the little plastic cap on the top of the headlights and use an allen wrench to adjust them.
There are two on each headlight assembly(vertical and horizontal). Vertical is white, horizontal is black. It might be hidden" by having a cap installed into the 6mm hex slot.
[:@]

Counter clockwise to raise level and vice versa.

In fact having been to look at the car all I can see is a white hex/philips on the top of the lamp unit through a cut out in the wing.

I'll have a look at the service manual and report back

Left headlamp (alignment screws of right headlamp are symmetrical):

1 - Height adjuster screw
2 - Lateral adjustment screw

Note
The inclination heights in “%” are engraved on the left-hand side of the headlamp. Headlights must be adjusted according to this information. The percentage values relate to a 10 m projecting distance. Example: Converting a dip setting of 1.0 % = 10 cm.

Also check that both headlamps work at the same time when headlamp adjustment is activated.

Not sure but this is what the above post said Counter clockwise to raise level and vice versa.

PS can't see anything about the 1% marking on my car

I owned a FR-TDi 2007 with works Xenon and a FR-TDI 2010 Fl with works Xenon.
Latter was already much better but my current Cupra 280 Led headlamps are so much better.
First time i have a car where they are adjusted correctly.
As written above they spread the light very evenly in width but also very well in depth also due to the "autobahn" setting that raises them little higher at higher speeds (think it is above 65 Mph)
The light is very white and all other cars their headlamps look yellow compared to it.
Also in rainy conditions they do a very good job.
So that is my experience compared to xenon of my past cars.

It seems that Seat does not include headlight washers in the full led headlight option so now i have to check the winter pack as well (another 470 euro) just for the washers. Does anyone have the led lights without washers? How important are they?

I don't have washer with LED - no issues... I've yet to find a car where they really did much unless you had wet mud flicking up at you, the jets won't get rid of weeks of road grime. IMO just save the money.
