Leon Cupra - carrying mountain bikes?

With a budget of about £5k, maybe stretching to £6k I need a fast hatch that is capable of carrying two mountain bikes (with the detachable front wheels off) without much grief with the back seats down. Does anyone use their Leon for carrying bikes?

I'm a fan of turbo VAG cars so the old Audi S3 is a contender but being a little older they tend to be a bit ropey and with higher miles when in this price range.
I am considering the facelifted 2003/04 MY Leon Cupra (with leather) or possibly a Leon Cupra R.

On the tuning side I will probably limit it to a remap, cat back exhaust and uprated brake discs/pads.

yes, carried my downhill and roadie together, front and back wheels off both tho; would probably fit with just front wheels off but not tried! (quick release front and rear)

try seats main dealers as they might have a roof rack that carrys bikes.or give halfords a ring and see what they do as ive seen some bikes on the rear of cars and it might fit most cars

Yeah I fit 2 quite hefty downhill bikes plus loads of gear in the back easily with the seats down. Only take front wheels off too and the forks go down in the rear passenger foot wells.

please don't use one of the rear bike carriers.. the top hooks only grab the plastic rear spoiler - not what i'd like to be holding 2 bikes on the rear!! (i have one of these carriers and it is in the shed after it started pulling my spoiler off!!)

I get my mountain bike with front wheel off no problem at all in the back of my LCR with the rear seats down and there would be loads of room for another bike,i bought a massive tarpaulin to cover the back up when the bikes in so nothing gets scuffed or dirty

Cool, I have quick release front wheels but really don't want to fanny about taking the rear wheels off.
And no way am I using a rear bike carrier after a bad experience on another car. Its inside or nothing.

www.roofbox.co.uk is pretty good. I've got the cheapest bars and bike carriers I could find. Not ideal putting them on the roof, but when they're mucky after a decent run out, I don't want them in the car!

I can get two mountain bikes in the back of my LCR in bike bags to keep the car clean Lots of space!!

lf you use the hook/claw type fitting kits then yes, it will rip your spoiler off but........if you use the cotton reel fittings, then you wont have any issues!

l regularly use a rear hanging bike rack with the cotton reel fitting kits, holding either 2/3 hefty bikes or my kite buggy (which if you know what l'm talking about, you'll know aren't light!) and l've NEVER had any issues! Halfords do the fitting kits for around £6 which can be used with most rear mounted bike racks.

All you do is open the boot and thread the strap through the top opening (cotton reels already attached), then close the boot, pull the straps tight and attach the bike rack as normal.......job done!

This way, all the strain/pressure is taken by the inside of the car and not the boot lid and spoiler!

Dougie would the halford rear carriers fit the leon?
How are they fitted? I am just trying to work out where they sit against the car.

the rear carriers are gash, they scratch your paint

get some Thules with aerobars, well worth it

I fitted a removeable towbar to my LCR. Got a custom made 2 bike Pendle rack that fitted onto the towbar with extra wide tracks to take larger type downhill tyres - use to do the National series so was away most weekends throughout the summer. Steady as a rock even at silly 3 figure speeds. Come to think of it iv,e still got it stashed away in the loft if anyone wants it.
