Morning all, My cupra is currently running 285 bhp, but have had an intermittent fault since owning it (8 months). It slowly getting worse, it started with a slight misfire, popping from exhaust when slowing down, and a bit sluggish around 2000 rpm. I now have fuel getting in my oil. It has been at the stealers now for 5 weeks, they replaced an injector, wiring loom to the injectors, wiring loom to coil packs and spark plugs. I had the car back less than 24 hrs and took the f****r back coz it was still doing the same [:@]. I went to my local AVS centre and they sail they are 90% certain it's the HPFP, This is what I had already told the stealers but they said it was fine.
Has anybody else had this sort of trouble? does anybody know where the best priced place is to get an uprated HPFP?

sounds like cam follower / lobe to me.

whilst its an easy / quick check to do yourself, if they have failed to check it be back to them telling them to do so.
 
It's not under warranty, that ran out in April. I contacted Seat UK customer services, that's why I'm not paying for them to do any of the work. I said to them about hpfp etc and they said they checked all that and it's fine, every time I pick it up they tell me it's driving perfect, just very lumpy on start up. Bollocks, it starts to go wrong before I even get it home. It's costing them a fortune every time to change oil, filter, labour etc coz the engine is full of my fuel. I don't know why they don't just change the parts we said about instead of looking in all the wrong places, It throws them coz no fault codes come up on the computer. Seat UK suggested that they get one of the experts to come to Cornwall from Milton Keynes!
 
If its running 285bhp, does that mean it's been tuned (badly)?

I seem to remember you asking for advice about a map on this car and everyone advised you to remove it. Does the dealer know its mapped?

Any particular reason you're using a SEAT dealer to do the work? I guess it's to try and get a contribution to the costs now that it's out of warranty? If so, once they know its mapped I think you'll find them less than amenable.

If fuel has diluted the oil (and it will have) I'd be pushing for new engine given its been like this since you bought it (I assume from the same dealer)? Did they know it was mapped? Iirc, didn't you say they mapped it to try and cure a problem?

Yes mate, they were the ones that had it mapped by the engine tuner in Plymouth, I don't think he put a certain map on it, I think he just tweaked it. I took it back to the dealer coz they were aware of the problem since I got it. They now want to send it to the bloke that mapped it so he can wipe it and remap it, I am trying to get them to take it to my local AVS center to have a look, as he is also a revo dealer.

They took it to "the engine tuner" or an engine tuner? I took my car to "the engine tuner" aka, Alan Jerries to use their rolling road and he asked about my remap, told him i paid nearly £500 for a revo, he stated he would have got same results for £250! At first i was abit like ahh man could have saved money, but then i remembered that you have to be out of your mind to let them tune your car!

I would tell them to clear the ECU - they can reprogramme it back to oem spec! and then change your cam lobe!
 
That is where they took it mate, cost them £300 to get it to 285 bhp and 305 lbft. It is quick when it runs rite, but every time I drive it now, it goes like a bag of **** and my oil fills up with fuel. That's why I said to them bout fuel pump and they said they checked it and has no problems

Sounds like they haven't got a clue what they're doing. Why are they insistent on getting the car mapped again? If the car isn't running right, it's leaking fuel in to oil, why on earth would they put a random, unknown map on that makes the car run harder? :confused:

A cam follower is cheap. About £30 and can be done while the pump is being replaced.

A worn cam lobe will probably need cam shaft.

Has the cambelt been changed?
 
Cambelt was done last Feb. I told them it is the fuel pump, I am looking for hpfp prices so I may be able to say to them about paying a bit towards an uprated pump

Thanks for your help invisiblekid, i knew i would get help on here. This is the first turbo car i have had, so not really up to date£590 is a bleddy good price compared to apr and you get a cam follower
 
The main problem is that your taking it to dales seat who are **** at fixing anything! give dub-bits a call in st Austell as the guy there has worked with vag since his apprenticeship which has got to have been over 15 years ago
 
I'm a little curious on this, how do you suspect the hpfp has failed? The seals internally? Thus allowing fuel down through past the spring and follower?

How much fuel is it dumping in the oil and over what period of time?

Are you sure the fuelling on the map hasn't been cranked right up or one of the injectors isn't sticking?

I'd get it flashed back to standard before you go any further, seat can do that no issue.

Also be wary that if the cylinders have been heavily washed then the bores may be damaged too.

I put £30 fuel in and that got me 30 miles, it was mapped in December but has only just started dumping fuel like this. The owner of the local avs garage has said he is 90% sure it's pump etc. I'm taking it to dales because I'm not paying for the repairs, they also said they may keep the car nor because of the trouble I have had with it

Hope you get this prob sorted 1 way or another williburp ( quality name by the way ) , if you decide to reject car what's the betting the dealer will bodge repair , sell it on and we ' ll all be reading a similar post in the future . Would be a good idea to have a list of mk2's on this forum with reg no's and on going faults when rejected . Sorry for going off subject .
 
tbh mate, for the sake of 20 minutes of your time this evening, take the follower/lobe out and check it yourself. if its ****, put it back in and ring the garage saying its a non runner - make up some bull saying you went to go shop and it just stank and miss fired like a ****er.

Then ring SEAT UK and tell them the issue, and you've been advised by a well known independent that there are common issues regarding the follower/lobe and you want that checked, and they are failing to do so.

Also, they are cheap as **** to buy anyway, Dave @ sere on here stocks them, and can ship them out next day.

But like i said before hand, ask them to reprogramme back to OE spec before they do anything else!
