Thank Sparkie.

Your mpg figures matched what I thought.

Boot space not a major issue but I will look into that.

Not an issue until you want to go for a trip with bags etc.
But really the VW is lovely, If it's the walnut style interior, I'd have the R32 interior trims as a replacement as the Ally look makes it feel more modern. As 2 mates have done.Looks great.
They drink fuel if you kick it. ;) VW service and parts LOTS as always.
LC is lighter through the corners, VW quite heavy, but awsome mile cruncher.
That's my thoughts. Hope it helps:lol:

It is the walnut stlye interior - is it a straight swap for the alloy trim and have you any idea of price?

I use a mechanic who has his own business specialising in vw/seat/audi and will speak to him tomorrow for his opinion regarding his costs for servicing both the Leon and Golf and general feel for the two cars.

Although what you say about "through the corners", won't the VW with 4wd hold the road better?

Once again I appreciate the feedback.

don't get the V6.. Fuel costs will be stupendous! The 1.8T gives much better milage AND better potential for tuning. Haldex AWD system is heavy (150kg) and not needed unless you go 300WHP + imo.

If all that doesn't matter, go drive them both on the same day and decide which one you like better :)

The trim should be a strait swap , Yes, price I've no idea sorry.
Go on a test drive with both on a few different style roads, you don't need to thrash to see what they're like, ha ha.
They're both great to drive, both very responsive.
Golfs 4 wheel system very sure footed.Just din't feel as nimble if you get me.
Unlike a Golf Ralley I used to drive which was lighter and you could really chuck it about, it would find a strait line through any S bends Pukka

But he's not bothered about fuel costs or tuning... Why do so many people focus on that?

difference in fuel costs over a period of couple years can be significant, also these are sporty cars that we all like to mod. More mad mod mod

True thought it didn't matter but even my LC drinks fuel and with the same raise in fuel expected next year (20%) well it becomes important at some stage.
I never thought of modding a car until I bought the LC and now it's "oh I fancy this and that and a remap and and and .........:lol:

I have driven both but only around car parks!

I would not buy a car without having a decent test drive in each and I know that could decide straightaway which of the two cars to go for.

I am mainly trying to get feedback from people who have had experience with both these type of cars pointing out the pros and cons and little bits of info that I don't know about.

I have been really surprised at the un-biased feedback I have received on this site and appreciate all the bits and pieces I am picking up.

I need to sort out some form of temporary insurance allowing you to "test drive" these cars. Although I am fully comp, I am only covered to drive other cars third party (so I believe). I need to speak to my insurance company.

Does anyone know of any company that offers this at a reasonable rate?

See if there are any dealers out there selling the same type car etc and drive theirs to get a feel,
then go find the car you fancy,
if you get on with the seller he should let you drive as you're insured but remember" if you bang it you buy it " rules apply:lol:

Id love the 4motion and the V6 would sound awesome.
plus points would be wet weather handling and easy traction off the line.
But the MPG would put me off.

Id remap the cupra. Youd end up with a very nippy fast car that would be fun to drive.
Plus points i imagine cheaper servicing? cheaper fuel costs. More powerful , faster car and very easy to improve the handling should you want to.

Depends what you want from your car? If your circumstances change could you end up driving more?

Get the golf. Because if you buy the cupra, youll come on this forum, then youll start asking yourself questions about 007p`s, panel filters and B Pillar buttons... then youll spend money and get hooked.;):D

Both good cars in different ways:)

depends what you want really. the leon will be a much sportier setup, whereas the golf will be better for cruising
the leon will be easier to modify if you want to go down that route, and it will be a lot cheaper to run

get the best of both worlds - import a v6 leon :D

I don't see anything about the V6 that's better than a 1.8T, other than the exhaust note..
4WD
there really isn't any more to it. it's less tunable, less economical and as a result more expensive to run

i'd take one over a stock Cupra, but not an LCR
