How do all. I have been on these forums for a while now as i have had a few leons, my lastest being a Cupra r 225 which i sold because of certain circumstances but anyway in around a month maybe two, i will be in the market for either another Cupra R or Ibiza cupra 20VT.

This is the thing, if i got another leon i would want to go at least stage 1 as i kept my other leon standard so im looking at;

Jetex cone/ Green Panel Filter
Forge 007P
Forge TIP?
N249 Bypass
Miltek/Blueflame Cat Back Exhaust and i should see 265 bhp?

With the Ibiza cupra i understand that they have K03 compared to the Cupra R's K04 so i wouldnt want to push no more than 230bhp, so am i looking at similar mods to get to that figure or would i need to go for a stage 2 with a full turbo back system + Decat + the above mods.

The Ibiza cupra's seem to be bringing a premium over Cupra R's at the moment so that swaying me back to the leon so it would free up a bit of money to do the mod's but unless you guys cans sway me to the other side :D

back to the original post....

You'd probably need to get a downpipe/sports cat if you want any more than 230bhp out of an Ibiza 20VT. However, the Ibiza Cupra already has a big FMIC which the LCR doesn't.

A stage 2 Ibiza Cupra still isn't a match for a remapped LCR in my experience. My hybrid Ibiza can't pull away from my mates LCR which is approx 275bhp.

To call it that here is a bit pedantic, it's an OEM turbo fitted as standard to the car, not a turbo modified by aftermarket turbo specialists (as commonly called) :)

isn't the K03s just a slight revision/evolution of the K03 and nothing like the same as a modified K03 with K04 internals?

beside the point of whether a k03s is technically a hybrid or not, its not standard in the ibiza, so would need to add the cost of the k03s turbo to the cost of the rest of the stage 2 mods. Not forgetting the labour involved in that to

All MK4 Cupras have K03-052/053 (aka K03S) as standard.

Cheers Rich, this is the type of feedback im after.. not all about speed but also the price of the car plus bits etc.

Well, if I was in your position I'd go for the LCR. You'd get an older one than an Ibiza for the same price, but the LCR is so much cheaper to make it go much faster. I've spent upwards of £3k to get my car to 255bhp and thats excluding exhaust, TIP etc, and its still no faster than a mapped LCR. And to add insult to injury, my original turbo which I sold to a mate keeps dead level with me too in a Mk3 Ibiza.

As much as I'd love to recommend an Ibiza, the LCR just makes more sense to me. Plus you get more doors, bigger boot etc. However, the Ibizas are more exclusive. I rarely see another Ibiza Cupra, but I see an LCR or 2 nearly every trip I make.

Infact, I probably should have got an LCR myself lol

Also if you look more power than ~250bhp and 250lb/ft, go for LCR.
LCR has a stronger block (T6B) than Ibiza (T16) and most importantly a bit stronger internals (connecting rods & pistons). With the standard connecting rods found in Ibiza, you should not go above 250lb/ft, while the connecting rods found in LCR can take up to 300lb/ft.

A well setup k03 hybrid will stay with a stage 2 mapped LCR as a k03 hybris is a k03 turbo with k04 internals. So they are capable of producing the same power....

I loved my LCR nd would have another in a heartbeat but i just thought id have a mooch at different things but i always end up back to the Leon, plus i kept my LCR standard so i can imagine i would love it even more once i have a little play!

maybe same internals but you've still got the same smaller housing(s) so ultimately less peak power? mid-range though...

I think I'd go for the LCR over an Ibiza Cupra, purely for the lots of little improvements the 225 engine has over the 150/180. doesn't the petrol Ibiza have a 5 speed box too?
