Hey peeps,

I had my car in for a remap on Saturday, and before we even got off the ground my guy called his "programmer" (Chipped UK) who informed him that my ECU is infact one from a Leon?

Also when they showed me inside the case of the ECU it had a manufactured date of 1997! and I was told that the chip should be a 400BT but is infact a 400BB

Can anyone confirm whether a Leon 180 ecu could be mapped and work on an Ibiza? Surely the ecu couldnt have been manufactured in 1997 if the car is a 2001! The first turbo Cupras werent even produced till 2000 so I guess it may well be a Leon one as the started in 1998/99?

HELP!!!

the eproms could well be that old, proms have been about a very long time. as for it being a leon, why did he have it open? get the hell away from chippers and stick with remaps.

i really wouldnt have thought it was a leon chip tbh, it just seems unlikely the car would work right with it

the dates irelevant tbh, not even the car would have been built in the year of registration, half the parts are from earlier models anyway mk2s/polos etc

wouldnt believe em tbh, how would they even know all that information? a vag chipping specialist

They knew it was a Leon ECU from the code on the outside of the ECU.They opened it up to see which chip was inside, yes I understand that parts would be from earlier cars but surely the ECU would need to be from a turbo car!?

They werent chippin it they were remapping it but bcoz they were having issues they opened it up to see if they could see anything wrong.

Im gona get in contact with Seat UK tomorrow to see if they can shed any more light

Man, your guys really know their stuff

the AMD eeproms I think have copyright 'dates' on them.... as well as a maufacturing date code. The copyright date will have been the one they read

No AMD part ends BT or BB, so that's wrong too

Don't waste your time calling SEAT UK - your chip tuners buddy is wrong.

What's the ECU code? that's all he needs to look at. and he can do that through the OBDII port.

why do people waste their time & money on these shonky setups?

Well he told me the car should have a 400BT code on the chip inside and the ECU code starts 6K which from what I know is an Ibiza code but not according to these guys.

When they attempted to upload the map they were able to upload the first 20% which im told is the ECU general information but they werent able to upload the map using the serial port or a direct connection.

This has happened twice, the first time they believed it may of been the serial port being dodgy so I waited 6 weeks for them to get new leads in so they could try a direct connection but neither worked.

I was told that the only way they would be able to upload a map to my car would be by unsoldering the chip in there and resoldering a new one in for which I would have to go to Birmingham!

it's more likely or possible that your car's ECU is either remapped already, or frazzled.

go somewhere who are more VAG oriented rather than jack of all trades

revo
custom-code
jabba
are all (or have agents) within 100miles of you

Well I dont think its frazzeled altho it depends to whatever degree! The car is running fine, showing now faults and when I had faults they were shown and cleared once parts were replaced but I dont know!

The car only had one previous owner who told me he didnt have the car remapped(which would be an odd thing to lie about) and I have all the receipts for the car none of which showing an ECU change or fault of any kind!

Thing is im assuming I need someone with mapping software to be able to tell me what is or isnt up lol

that's the point I'm trying to make

you've gone to the cheap people who haven't a clue - and are taking and messing with your ECU in an inapproriate environment and who 'should' have the right tools.

Go to a tried and trusted setup - they won't have any problems with their software

They arent cheap! Im not in the habit of using monkeys, these people are local to me and have the back up of Chipped UK and Dinsport.

They only took the case of the outside of the ECU off to identify which chip was present inside to allow them to eleminate that being an issue.

That said I appreciate what your saying and I will endeavour to find out from a more "trusted" source

Thanks

by taking the casing apart your ecu is now even more vulnerable to damage than before

doesnt say much does it, and an unnecessary risk

try a revo dealer, you probably find it'll go straight on

did they have anti static precautions in the electronic environment?, did they use heat (ie a heat gun or something similar) to reseal your ecu?, if not, i wouldnt be driving your car in the wet/rain ever again until its done properly water WILL get in and WILL fcuk your ecu within weeks, been down that crap rickety path before.

Could well be mapped already. Mine was, i brought it off a dealer, one lady owner from new, dealer told me it was standard and was going on about leaving it std as they are worth more, wired up a boost gauge and saw 15psi!!!!

Really shouldn't of let them unseal your ecu!!

It's in such a vunerable place, 6k is the ibiza code isn't it???

Can i ask how on earth would a leon ecu work with a standard ibiza???

Or maybe your car has had a KO3s conversion and he has used the ecu off a KO3s leon (180bhp)

Well a Cupra R Ibiza runs a KO3 with 180bhp doesnt it? OR am I being stupid!

I dont know what they did as I wasnt watching them, just going by what they said. I will have to check tonight I guess

NO!!!! Delete that b4 you get slated!!!!

It still runs a KO3 just runs 10psi rather than the standard 7psi.

If you pay "professionals" to do a job you dont expect them to mess something up. I was unaware that they were going to take the ecu casing off as they didnt tell me until after they had done it!

So I need to ring them and see if they resealed it?

Yes definately. you can check quite easily. I take it you know where it is and how to get to it???

Thats it mate, Just pull off the seal for the bonnet and lift off the plastic meshed panel. Just look at the black outer casing. if you can take the top off (which i wouldn't advise you do) then it aint sealed.
