hi all,

just wanted some advice really on improvements that can be done on my FR performance wise.

i arnt no money bags so would like to start with the cheaper things if there is any?!

also i here re-mapping get thrown around alot on here! what power would a re-mapp give extra and how much would you be looking to pay for one?

obiously loads of other things need up grading to...

just wondered if any1 with an Fr had made this jump...

kinda feeling bit **** at the moment cos one of my mates has just bought a new Focus ST 3  and its like sh*t off a shovel. 2.5l engine. 225brake.

any ideas!? :help:

Without some serious mods, no catching him... i have a mate that has one, and with all my mods, the only true point i catch up with him in speed is off gear and in the corners, but I can stay with him up to a ton i'm sure!

Remap would be good, but sometimes that fails the clutch, do a search on the forum on TDi remaps, that will give you an idea!

yer i know i have no chance at all with him. proper impressed with the ST. just he proper kicks my arse! i would like like mine to be abit faster even tho al never catch him!

suppose he is paying for it . £50 gets him 280 miles! lol

Well, if you do some suspension tweaks, remap and clutch.. which is around 2k work there alone, you wil give him a fright... and give you a smile...

passed that you can get propane and ATB Diff, Single mass flywheels, clutch, uprated injectors and turbo and then remap...

You can sit next to him and wave goodbye when your developing near 300bhp...

But then the above will set you back a bout 5 credit cards!

Errr.... people on this forum have for a long time said a remapped TDi 150 will keep pace with an LCR. And the LCR can pull on an ST if both are standard. So in that case, one would assume that either the remapped TDi's don't keep pace with an LCR, or it will also keep pace with the ST?

Good point tbh...I mean I would expect a remapped TDI to beat or be even with an ST. I certainly know a remapped TDI can beat a CTR....snoopcousins done a test with his brother that proved that.

Anyway cheap way to improve performance is get a straight through exhaust, airfilter and dogbone mount. Made a big difference to my car as it quite happily revs to 5k without it dieing suddenly at 4k. Car is much more willing to go...but it wont stay/beat with an ST without a remap and clutch...

If you really want to beat him, just ensure a petrol station is on your race route! The ST's shocking fuel economy means they naturally track towards any sources of fuel ;)

Actually Rob it was more learning towards the fact that the Focus ST handles better in standard form than a Leon, thats a fact, that comes from a ex Leon owner to Ford dustbin.. lol
And i'm guessing on the drivers ability here too.. i have shamed many cars that in therory i shouldnt, but coz of driver error, the TDI takes them...

But yes you can keep with him with a few tweaks, but if he starts tweaking, there are BIG gains in that engine, a friend of mine has got his nearing over 300bhp... and thats with only map and exhaust system...

Siphon some of your diesel into his petrol tank, that shouls slow him down abit....Too much?
Ok how about challenge him to a 500 mile endurance race with NO pit stops :D

Nemz.

Some people believe a Ford Ka can keep pace with a Pagani Zonda......you just need heavy enough traffic :cartman:

Only 3 things worth considering on the FRtdi without remotgaging the house, Phase 1 remap, suspension changes (ARB's etc) and better brakes....past that sell the FR tdi and buy something properly quick

Not starting a big arguement Rudd, but that doesnt have to be so, i mean many other owners have done, far more than that and the results are quiet startling...
Its expensive, but no more expensive than say a LCR top stage powers upgrades..?
I just hacked off when people dont see worth it spending money on a diesel but cheer on a guy spending the same on a petrol?

To be fair, Rudd has often said the same about the LCR... in that any more than those few mods aren't worth doing. OR... go the whole-hog and go BT.

I agree with that theory to be honest, as the cost Vs gains become quite small once you get past a remap and simple suspension changes. Plus resale value is tiny compared to a standard version.
