Yeah exactly as mine is doing to. I'm surprised this isn't something vag have reviewed as it seems to not just be a handful of unfortunate cars. Anyone had much luck with a dealer?

Mine booked in on 9th May

With it not being a safety issue there are lots of faults out there that never get reviewed!

There is a SEAT TPI notice out for Leon clutch pedals - something to do with the clutch pivot and bushing being either incorrectly fitted or of inferior quality. I don't know how many cars are affected, but my 63 plate 1.4FR definitely was.

I'd get a rough feeling right at the bottom of the pedal travel, and then a grating type feel as I released the pedal along with a loud creak/squeak/groan. Was always worse when it was below 11 degrees C outside. (On that point, try sticking the heaters on max and aim at the footwell, see if temperature makes it better).

It took all in all 5 days to repair. 2 days at in one dealer (allegedly changed bits and pieces but made no difference) and then 3 days at another dealer (Caffyns Tunbridge Wells). Caffyns sorted it but I gather it's a bit of a pig of a job - to get to the pedal you've got to remove the dash under the steering wheel, drivers knee airbag etc.

Unfortunately I don't have the TPI code number but there certainly is one out there, if the problem is similar to mine anyway :)

This is my exact issue!
I have called the dealer to get them to search the TPI code in advance for when my car goes in!

Thank you for sharing this info!:worship:

:) Happy to help.

Of course, the big question(s) is/are.... were you lucky enough to:
A) get it back same day?
B) get it fixed first time?

So car taken in yesterday
Master technician asked for permission to take car home so he so can test thoroughly
Today he contacted me and found a faulty master cylinder which has been ordered for fitting tomorrow

Just hope this is the correct diagnosis

Look forward to hearing if this cures the problem

+1. I forgot to add that I never actually did find out what specifically was the root of the problem with mine, all I do know is that it had the TPI on the pedal done, which made no difference, and then it had something else done as well. Perhaps I've got a newer clutch master cylinder too.

Either way, whatever they eventually changed on mine made that squeak go away. I know some mk7 golf manuals have had clutch master cylinder issues so it wouldn't surprise me if that is actually the culprit.

I'll keep you posted when I have it back and have driven it

The master tech seemed to have knowledge of the fault which is always a plus

Sooo got my car back
All seemed ok until I hit traffic on motorway on way home
Guess what! Same god damn issue!

No idea what the issue is now. Surely it can't be such a hard problem to fix
Feel like just going to hand the keys back and get my deposit back!

Did they mention what was changed?

If they didn't mention changing the pivot bushing thingy too then my guess is that it's that. I'm becoming more certain that that is what happened to mine on its two visits (though probably the other way around - bushing first, master cyl second). The only difference is that with my first visit I knew it wasn't right before I even turned the key, but it was cold, dark and raining and I just wanted to go home! :(

Hopefully the 23rd May and a second opinion brings final success.

I'd think that for new car warranty work, SEAT will clearly define the repair pathway, though maybe that does not make for good sense in some cases! In the case of my S4, the dealer did say that they would try lubricating bits as a first step then if that did not work they would start replacing parts, my thoughts were that if so sleeves and/or pivots have got marked due to lack of lubrication or poor design, then they would always need replacing to effect a fix, in my case, over a year later the roughness is beginning to return but car is out of warranty.

In some of the Leon cases, it sounds like the faulty master cylinder has caused some sleeves and/or pivots to get marked, so now that the root cause of the problem (master cylinder) has been replaced, these other marked or otherwise damaged marks are faulty for the rest of their life.

SO i took my car into my local dealer and they are as much use as a chocolate teapot
They said they cannot even replicate the issue even after 20 mins of stop start diagnosis
So i went to collect my car and after a short journey back to work the problem was clearly there
No idea what those technicians were doing! Probably just ragging it about and wasting a gallon of fuel

So I've decided not to pursue a fix but to go back to the dealer i bought from and look for either money back or exchange

I personally don't want to be in and out of dealers with a faulty car less than 3 month old and only 1900 miles

Update on this
My car has been in dealer for 4 days now and they are still trying to find the issue
They admit there is a fault as they have compared to other FR in stock
I have been driving a loan FR and it drives like a dream

They have suggested they may need to send to Milton Keynes for Diagnosis

What advice on this?
Am i entitled to a replacement car?
Is it just setting the car up to be problematic?

Thanks

The dealer have now had my car for 2 weeks and still I haven't heard if they have fixed it
They have apparently changed the clutch and flywheel

Unfortunately it has got worse!
I was broken into 2 days ago and the Tw@ts have stolen the loan FR along with other things
So now I have no car and £500 excess to shell out
Can it get any worse!

Really sorry to hear that!! Some people can't go out and work like the rest of us that they have to steal others things, with the clutch and flywheel am sure the clutch problem should I be sorted!
