Leon mk1 FR Gearbox issue (6-speed)

Maybe someone smarter than me..

Engine is a 6-speed 1.9 110kw Leon MK1. After changing the clutch in the workshop and driving for 15 minutes, the 1-2 gears behave as if they were in neutral and the reverse gear absolutely does not engage, everything else works. The workshop claims that within 15 minutes of leaving the garage, the shift fork or the switching mechanism went broke and they have to remove the gearbox again.. Any ideas? 😂 Thanks!

Sounds like the shift mechanism wasn't properly aligned. Pretty easy fix, lots of guides online.

If that doesn't work then it's the clutch they installed at a guess

They, or you, need to do this

Air box needs taking out first for access.

It's a bit of a black art. They might say "we did this", but I've had to do it a couple of times before getting it right because you can lose gears for no apparent reason. Also do it on the level. Even a slight slope can faff up the tension.

Thanks for the replies!

Today checked it out a little bit closer and engaged gears 1-2 straight from the top of the gearbox and same result-both act like neutral. So I'm guessing it can't be alignment problem after that check and probably selector fork it is then..
