Back from the dead
Hi

A mate of mine called me this morning to say that she's knocked the wing mirror off her car reversing through the gate of her house. Its currently just hanging on by a cable.

She called the dealer and hey said they would need to replace the entire wing mirror unit even though the casing / glass etc. doesn't look to be broken (I haven't seen this yet).

Are the dealers trying to sell a maiden in distress a new part unnecessarily? I was under the assumption that if it was to clip off it may then clip back on.

I'd be gratful if anyone knows anything about these if they could let me know, and whether they also know any decent garages in the Winchester area who may be able to help her.

cheers
Warren

Without seeing the damage its hard to tell if the stealers are trying it on or not.

I doubt they are though.

The mirror is held on with one bolt and a locating pin. Can you see either of these?

Thinking about how the mirror fits to the door, if the mirror is fine and reuseable I would expect the door skin to be badly damaged. If the door is nor damaged then I would imagine the mirror stalk part is broken.

Sorry :(

She took it to an independent garage and the have ordered the mounting bracket (?) for the mirror as this was the only part broken. I've yet to see it in the flesh, and am getting this info second hand.

2 'stealers' said that it would be a ful replacement mirror as it was not sold in seperate parts. One call from an independent garage proves otherwise. Thanks for the help above, and I guess we should always be careful and get a second opinion when dealing with car issues at a main dealers
