After being very dissapointed with the demise of the rear brace I had been helping Mike develop (No idea what's happened there?), I decided to do one myself. I bought an alloy OMP Honda Integra front strut brace (MA1834), which just happens to fit the boot of the Leon!

I looked at many rear braces to see where they were fitted, most were quite low down in the boot across the suspension mounts, the closest thing to that in the leon boot is the box sections leading down from the rear seatbelts, structurally strong points. After taking some time to try out a few different locations and mounting positions, I decided on the following, which only required 2 holes to be drilled, as 2 were already there.

I mounted the brackets vertically so the second holes were in the middle of the box section, rather than near one edge. I used socket bolts and nylock nuts, trimmed the carpet around the brackets - once everything was tightened up it is ROCK solid! This brace can easily be removed by undoing the 2 large bolts at each end of the brace.

It has made a noticeable improvement in rear end stability, fewer creaks from the back and the whole car just feels more solid - I am very pleased with this mod.

Nah, where Mike had it was weaker metal and required bracing bars behind - this brace bolted into the box sections feels rock solid! Here's a pic showing info on what I did:

Large image, shows the other reason for choosing where I did, access to the rear of the bolts! I also didn't want to go higher up and start hacking up the plastic trim, Mike's bar would have required this to be done.

After some spirited cornering this morning I am 100% convinced this has made a difference to the rear end, I am happy with this modification - not a single squeak, groan or rattle for the rear end at all, feels very solid.

Hopefully the pics and info above are enough if people want to do this mod, well worth it IMO, feels more solid than the brace Mike was working on (and I'm not just saying that, I'm being honest!).

sorry to open an old thread - I think this maybe what ive been after?? I have the adjustable rear brace on mine, think that was mike hughes?? awesum bita kit. but ive seen a bar which goes as a lower rear brace - runs inside the boot still but near the floor - kinda above the "bulkhead" which seperates the boot from the seating area..................

Anyways, I wish to brace up this area too and double it up as a harness attachment bar. I cant see the pictures from this thread - is it what im thinking?

Thanks, Andy

Sorry but isn't that brace a little too low to be of any real structural value?

I already have the hughes engineering brace (excuse the mess in the car when this old pic was taken).

all i want is that lower brace to mainly attach the harness & meth tank to.

What’s wrong with using that high bar as the harness attachment location? I'd always want a tank of meths bolted in more securely than just that bar.
