Hi Guys n girls, looking for a bit of advice.

It is now time for me to leave my mk2 ibiza cupra behind and get something a little more practical for my new job :( .

I'm going to be doing a lot of miles and therefore I now need to get a diesel and was looking at getting either a Leon Cupra or FR TDi. (probably be keeping it for 3 years at least)

I was wondering if anybody could give me any advice on which I should go for or any advice from anybody who own's either one. I have never driven either before but Its probably the best medium size car I can think of for the budget I have got.

The budget is looking at around 11k is that reasonable enough for an FR?

Any advice would be excellent

If you had searched for this information before posting ;) you would have found that the FR TDi and the Cupra TDi are 99% the same and it's only very minor cosmetic changes that separate them. The engine and running gear is 100% the same, therefore meaning performance, economy and everything about the way they are to live with is the same.
 
The Cupra standard alloys are hideous. (Sorry to all those who have them ;))
I think it changes the whole look of the car and actually quite like the standard FR alloys.

Although an FR+ is the perfect spec ;)
 
I really like the standard Cupra alloys actually. Not sure which I prefer out of those or the FR, but I wouldn't put one above the other really.

Go for whatever car offers the best value for money. I.e. the best combination of age, spec, mileage, condition and service history. Don't worry about the badge too much :)

Its hard with a 11k budget, it seems as if its kinda in the middle, Meaning I would get a really low mileage cupra but a bit older, or a higher mileaged Fr.

I do like the alloys on the Fr, I saw a Red one go past me at the lights yesterday, the front bumper does look nice too :D

Perhaps I should test drive one and stop all this dreaming lol
 
Sorry to confuse you further (do a search), but there are the Cupras, FR's & FR+'s.

FR+ is the FR with Cupra R bodykit & (smaller) alloys ;-)

£11k you say, well here are a few from Pistonheads.com to start with, worth going over £11k a bit if it means getting the right car...

I would say a Cupra Tdi is the way to go, FR Tdi's are gonna push you well over £12-13k for decent miles.

Hope this helps, outta those 3 I would take the 2005 plate as this has average miles, is only £450 over budget and will still have Warranty until at least Jan 2008 :)
 
FR+ not overly rare, but do cost a premium.

Worth it though if you can find one in your price range.
 
I got a standard cupra and then put every LCR part on it, ie body kit brakes wheels etc, the car is cat D repaired, but owes my about 7k and that was eight months ago. well happy with it!

im in the same boat as you ,looking at getting a cupra tdi rather than the fr as my budget aint as gd as urs. i was out test driving a fr just to c what they were like and it is a rocket bit of lag and then the turbo just hits u. id try and get a fr if ur budget can stretch to it. which it should.
 
Depends what alloys you like, I prefer the cupra alloys so got mine for 12k. Apart from that if you really want silly looking wing mirrors get the FR, if not get the Cupra and save some pennies.
