Licence plate reversing camera wiring

Hi there, hoping someone can help.

I'm trying to install a reversing camera (which replaces the original licence plate light with an led and the camera) , on my 56 plate Altea Xl, but struggling to find the best path to run the cable to take the supply and trigger off the reversing light.

I've tried to follow the wiring for licence plate lights (thinking they must go into the boot space somewhere) but no luck finding it so far.

Anyone any suggestions on how to best do this please? I'd rather not have to drill a hole.

Thank you in advance.

have a look at towbar wiring instructions (pfjones etc), they often use the vents behind the bumper from the lower part of the boot space

So I fitted a reverse cam on my 2007 XL, this is wot i did, it seems pretty water tight at the mo and has been for a good few years

So to get the 12V from the reverse light you will have noticed that the bulb is on the tail gate not on the rear wing corners, so its gentle pry down the head liner to reveal the wiring harness, from memory i think it was to the left hand side of the tailgate opening, also if i remember i took the inspection panel of inside the tail gate to check which colour wire was for the reversing bulb, then you can tap into that at the head liner end.

Then to get the power and video cable to the camera i removed the rear off side light cluster (3 nuts) and feed the wires from inside to the outside and the rubber / foam gasket on the light fitting keeps the water out

I did try going in via the side of the rear air vents,(located in the lower section of the rear of the boot) but that leaked big time.

let me know if i you want some pictures

Thank you Dai. Some photos would be helpful.

The reversing camera i have is one like this:

So not sure how best to get it to the reverse light from head liner.

car is at garage having MOT, I will get some pictures when she is back, expecting it will need some work, either wheel bearing or CV joint sounds a bit clicky, lets see wot happens
