Are the liners on the BAM engine wet or dry? I got the head off today, as the m9 ribe is on order i butcherd an m10 spline in and got them off [:@]. The damage is quite bad, just the head and 2 pistons, in cylinder one a vavle has clipped the piston and taken a small chunk out so just need the cash now. Followed by a new timing belt, water pump, head gasket, head bolts get the new head skimmed and tested + cleaned, exhaust gasket, rocker gasket.

Are the thermal insualting inlet gaskets worth the money?

Yea i know the ups and downs of skimming and compression but i got a feeling a 2nd hand head of ebay may have been overheated and i dont want to do a job twice, im seding it off to be tested and cleaned though so ask them to check it for trueness.

ah man not nice ! what miliage was it at ?

had a quick scan and from the below etka pages from a 2002 TT, looks like the auq and bam cylinder heads have different part numbers (look at the 'Cylinder head with valves and camshaft' listing).

Prob best to do some more research though as thats just after a quick search and not even for leons, shouldnt matter though if the codes are the same ?

did they do different revisions of each engine ?

I work for renault and know there are a good 3-4 different engine suffix numbers for and particular engine code.

I don't know about the Newsouth one but the Phenolic one is very thick and very good.
There is one at 3mm but the Phenolic one is 10mm, dunno if the 3mm one is the Newsouth one??
Make sure you get two OEM agskets with this, one either side.
You'll also need 10mm longer bolts. the studs at the ends of the manifold are long enough and the OEM nuts can be reused
