1362, 3R, Complaints in the clutch area regarding twin-mass flywheels (manual gears) Release date: 05-Jan-2010
Customer statement / workshop findings
Complaints in the clutch area.
When removing the clutch components the following is observed:
The removed twin-mass flywheel has movement in all directions. Also the bracket of the twin-mass flywheel is missing rollers.
Technical background
1. "displaced twin-mass flywheel"
The twin-mass flywheel used in the EXEO vehicle, has an axial movement when it is removed, both radial and tilting due to the fact that the housing and positioning of the compensation masses are carried out through the crankshaft (driving hub) and the primary gear change axis.
2. “the bracket of the twin-mass flywheel is missing rollers”
In the bracket of the twin-mass flywheel currently in the series, every fourth roller is intentionally missing (the bracket contains 12 rollers instead of 16 possible rollers) with the objective of enabling the storage of a greater quantity of grease in the bracket.
The aforementioned characteristics of the twin-mass flywheel are dependent upon the type of technique and the functioning concept employed and do not represent any reason whatsoever for a complaint.

Measure
Should the customer complain, once the
problem has been confirmed the repair procedure below must be followed:
• Start the engine and run it for a few minutes putting it into each gear to heat up the gearbox oil and make it more fluid and easier to drain.
• Stop the engine and drain the gearbox oil letting it all run out (approximately 2 hours, the longer the better)
• Fill the gearbox with oil, spare parts ref.: G052171A2 up to the level specified in the Repair Manual.
• Perform a dynamic test drive.
• If the complaint persists, repeat all the previous operations again.
