Looking at buying a Leon Cupra R

I'm looking at buying a Seat Leon Cupra R (225) in the near future, the one I'm looking at, at present is for sale at a local SEAT/Hyundai dealership, The spec is as follows:

SEAT Leon Cupra R
Registered: Sept '04 ('54 plate)
Colour: Silver
Mileage: 22,500
has had two previous services, both by SEAT, 1 at 5,000 miles, the other at 15,000 miles, the next one is due at 25,000 miles and the dealership have agreed that this service will be carried out by SEAT (with their stamp) for the sale of the car
Tax: Runs out end of August

Price: £13,490

The car has all the usual specs, 18's (+ a spare with mint tyre), Brembo's (I understand these are 325mm discs with 4 pot callipers?), Radio /cassette & 6 disc changer, Tracker, 6 speed box, TC, ESP, ABS, Leccy front & rear windows, Leccy mirrors, carpet set with Leon stitched into drivers side, Have I missed anything?

The car in general is in excellent condition, I has a small chip in the roof which the dealer said he would sort, also there are a few hairline scratches on random places of the bodywork (IMO these could be sorted with a good machine polish (at their expense ) The dealer said he would have this sorted also, The car still has around 18 Months warranty left with SEAT, he has agreed to give me a further 2 years warranty after my SEAT warranty has ended free of charge (I know the dealer BTW).

I've test driven the car twice and have noticed a possible issue on both occasions, when you accelerate there is a screech/Creaking noise coming from the back that last a couple of seconds, does anyone know what this is?? I mentioned it to the dealer and he said he would have it checked out. The other thing is when I checked on the passenger side REAR footwell, I noticed there is a bulge in the carpet, hard to the touch, anyone know what this is??

I'm currently pushing for a lower price, I'm waiting on a call back as we speak to see what he has come up with. I've checked the likes of Parkers, Whatcar and I even paid for a valuation on Glass' site and they've all came up with around the same figure on what it would be selling for, around £14,400, so it looks like maybe they've already tried to reflect the slight extra mileage in the price, I'm still pushing for more though, also a tank of fuel if they'll stretch to that!

Anyway I'm now off to absorb info if anyone has any feedback on what I've stated so far please fell free to comment,

Kev

Seems okay longs as they sort everything out, my advice is get it remapped ASAP as it increases performance and gives better MPG, most of the LCR's on here are reamapped. Enjoy they are fun (if a little expensive to run) :D

Welcome BTW

Kev,

Recently bought my Black o4 LCR 225, 11K on the clock mint condition, tracker and all the usual extras. Although I have red and black checkered mats as standard in mine.

The only problem i've had are bearings and lower ball joints, but these were fixed under warranty for free. Could be the cause of your creaking screeching!

I paid 13450 for mine in Bristol from a dealer.

Yeah someone on Astra-sport told me they'd had their 225 LCR mapped to 270BHP for £500, anyone know what map that could be?

Sounds like ReVo to me although there are others if you look on the main page of this forum there is a list of tuners etc. Also use the search and you will get owners feedback which is good.

Kev,

The map is probably REVO TECHNIK, check out their web site

http://www.revotechnik.com/

I managed to get a really good price but took some bargaining, hang in there they want the sale as much as you want the car.

And believe me they are worth it, some much fun, but also calm and easy to drive when you are cruising.

Welcome and enjoy

That mileage is just average, so that is a fair price!

Disk size is 323mm x 28 but yes they are 4-pot Brembos

As for the creaking noise it could be a couple of things! Rear seat or rear suspension. Do a search and all will be revealled! It's a common fault! As for the bulge in the footwell i'm guessing it looks like it shouldn't be there? Someone may have tried to jack the car up in the wrong place and bent it, have a look underneath!

kev where you from

I'm from Newcastle mate,

Awelch,

cheers for the info mate!! I'll hang in, as I said I know the guy who's dealing with me and he's been a good froend of the family for alot longer too!

I was really impressed with the Leon, pulled like a train through every gear, cruising was really smooth and that 6th gear will take some getting used to if I go ahead! handled itself really well on country roads, assuming that's a combination of good suspension, big wheels & Pirelli tyres? is there anything else particulary special about the car? ARB's etc?

the only downside to the leons imo is the paintqork anybody off here will probably agree they are prone to stone chips !:censored:

Cheers mate,

I'll be honest I'm in love with the car, and as for a remap I'll look into that at a later stage, I'm coming up from a Nitrous'd 1.8 astra, never really driven anything like the Leon before, I just want to get used to it standard first before I begin making changes, My Dad was sat next to me in the 2nd test drive I had today, he'd asked me at one point if I was sure that the Leon was the car I wanted, asking if there were many others types of car around for the same money, My immediate thoughts were the likes of the CTR & Astra GSi/SRi T but both are common as muck and an Astra GSi isn't different enough from what I have at the moment,

A 318/320 BMW maybe? really rather bland and no where near as much fun as an LCR,
TBH I think the Leon is something a little different from the norm and comes much better specc'd than most other self proclaimed hot hatches

one of my last cars was a ctr and i loved it great car but i was in one a while back and it just felt a bit cheap inside and not as well built as my LCR.as for leaving it alone i only lasted a few weeks ;)
