Hi All,

I've got a '57 plate 1.9tdi stylance and am on the verge of fitting a RCD 510 headunit and BT module. Looking for a new set of clocks. Mine have the small information display and i'm looking to change them for the ones with the full display. I'd consider a set of used clocks but my mileage is low (10500) and afaik you cannot turn the mileage back (well not legally anyway). I don't have the part number of my current clocks but will get it soon when I get a chance to vag-com the car. Anyone able to help??

Best new price would be from Seremotors on here.

I done the upgrade, cost around £500.

You can get an old instrument cluster and adjust the milage without too much trouble, but you'd need the SKC code from the old car I believe and would need to be coded in by the dealer. Would be near impossible to find the exact part though.

Whats th benifit of fitting the large display?
 
track/artist display even when aftermarket headunti has been installed?

If I buy clocks from new from dealer do they have to be 'coded' to my car?

I found a set of dials on ebay for £70, exactly same as the ones i have already only with the larger mfd.
Ive got all the dash off and they will hopefully be coded tomorrow, as at the moment their coded to another car. Ill let you know how it turns out!

Can you also tell me how much the dealers are charging to code them?

The immobiliser is built into the dash pod so:

If you buy a new dash pod its blank and can be coded into your car and have the milage adapted to match the origional.

If you buy second hand it will have to be re-coded to your car and have the milage adapted by a 3rd party because the dealership equipment can only alter the milage once.
 
Seat are not willing to code mine in as the milage will be different and it will void warranty. They also say even if you buy a new unit you have to start from 0 again lol. It's so annoying I know they work aswel they have been in the car, just need coding and milage adjusting

When you say that the dealer can only change milage once do you mean on a brand new on or once within the life of any set

You dont start from 0 again, you code the new dash with the info from the old one and it reads near enough the same (there is a bit lost sometimes as some of the units are coded in KM but appear in miles).
 
I knew you wouldn't start from 0 that's just what my local seat said. Is it not possible to recode 2nd hand units then?
 
Its not possible to recode the odometer reading again using a VAS5051b/5052 etc - this can only be done via the like of an aftermarket eeprom re-writer like and enigma or dashfixer 2 and would probably cost about £50-120.

What you should do is find a dealer willing to code in your dash pod then have the dash milage "corrected" to the origional milage. It would be far easier doing it this way because when the milage is altered they person doing it will have to only alter the milage display on the dash pod where as if it were being "clocked" then it would have to be altered in the ecu aswell.

So seat can adjust the milage then if they code in the dash pod? Would an independant VAG specialist be able to do this?
 
Only if its a new dash pod, you'd have to find someone with the right equipment to change the milage.
 
Unfortunately mine have been used so do I have to find someone willing to set them up

The milage yes but seat should be able to code them for you, no one else can obtain the immobiliser code and only a dealer can and its needed in order to synchronise the keys, ecu and dash pod in order for it to run.
