Hi,

bought an Altea FR 56 plate. Just a week ago. 2 test drives around town , few back roads and loved it- perfect sold!

paid my money, pootled around in it a few days, the occasional purge to 'clean the dpf' (i tells the wife')

Got it to the A1 Monday and finally got to give it a boot to a decent speed. hard not to notice but at about 70, it sounds like a helicopter is chasing me :( but not every time. tried maybe 20 times and happens probably 3 in 5..

If i drop it out of gear and let it slow down, with clutch back out, the noise slowly fades away til i drop to 40ish, so i thought maybe in need of wheel bearings or a tyre cupping.. but then if i drop the clutch at 65/70 and leave the clutch in, the noise vanishes..

The reason posted here... i also have a coolant issue, which i'm more concerned about.

when i bought it, the coolant was low, car not serviced for 8k according to logbook so thought, ok not a massive issue.. Topped up with the pink stuff and thought nothing of it. have done 300 miles since i got it and the light came on when i started her this morning. lost most of the expansion tanks juice.

I've checked the oil for any milkyness..nothing there, the performance is spot on other than the helicopter thing, mpg is good, checked pipes for anything obvious but nothing.

Could these two be linked?

any ideas on this one please gurus? sorry for the long post..

Much appreciated

Ryan

Could be a rear wheel out of balance? I remember when I had mine a few people complying about rear tyres getting flat spotted which I think was something to do with wheel alignment causing uneven tyre wear. This would cause a drumming noise which would obviously be speed related.

With regard to coolant loss check the expansion tank itself as I think they are prone to cracking but a thorough inspection of all the pipes, radiator and check your carpets inside the car just in case the heater matrix has sprung a leak although I think you would probably smell it and have problems with misted windows too if that were the case.
