Hello Everyone

I am a newbie. Just bought a 03 Sport and am very pleased, except for one thing, those low profilre tyres. The noise and bumpy ride, for someone of my advancing years its murder.

I have at present 205/45/16 fitted. Has anyone fitted say 205/55/16 in their place? I realise the speedo would go slightly slower thats not a problem for me as I dont go fast anyway but I read that scuffing the wheel arches could happen. I wondered if anyone has a definitive answer on that.

I know the purists out there are shaking their heads thinking of handling etc etc if the low profiles were swopped but if anyone knows the answer you would make an old timer very happy.

One last question the passenger seat will not move back or forward I have had a look but can see nothing wrong except a cable that appears to be loose poking up on the seat joint mechanism.

Thanks for reading

Im running 18s with no problems so I cant see any reason at all that 205/55 16s would rub. Cant comment on the comfort of doing that as Im running 35 profiles (hmm) but the mk4 is a very noisy and relatively uncomfortable car in any respect.

It just looks wrong, I had these wheels from a golf while mine were being refurbed:

Many thanks to your three who replied Very much appreciated

from one old codger to another if you can wait a short while I can give you the sp' mine are at the blasters now and should hopefully have an answer by next week- I recon it'll be OK--I'm going for Uni' rain expert rather than sport- hope it will help protect my suspension --3 new springs and counting p.s. looks fine on golf wheels but I guess us guys are just not in fashion :)

Unfortunately this is an Ibiza trait, I got rid of my Cupra TDI for this very reason. I had brand new suspension all round ( stock), 215/45/17 as I couldn't put smaller rims on and I still wasn't happy. Think I just out grew the Ibiza's after owning 3 mk4's in a row, overs a 5 year period.

done(hopefully) I havn't a lot to report as I've had other probs keeping me off theroad but having been around the block I have initially one small rub @3 o'clock on the rear passenger wheel when over a large bump or hardish cornering- more later as I guess you're still interested ---"UniRoyal rain experts" 205/55/16's the tread depth (new) is 9mm :)

I have 195/45/17's on the front of mine. along with a massive hole in my arch lining, i think you should be okay as long as your not planning on lowering :)

Did you know your tyre size gives exactly the same rolling radius as my 18s? How low are you just out of interest? Im 45mm down with no rubbing and just wanna know how much lower I can go!

I suggest 205/50/16s which is what i run on my winter wheels,no chance of rubbing gives a definite improvement in the ride and actually makes the speedo read spot on.

never going to be what you call comfortable but makes the ride bearable.

How did you find the Uniroyal Rain Experts in the recent wet conditions. Don't suppose you've had them for a Winter ?...............just looking at the tread pattern and the large grooves look ideal for snow (ie for someone who can't afford Summer & Winter tyres !)
