maf unplugged for 15 mile journey home seemed to drive loads better so will try a new one it cured 80 % of the problem i reckon

right, plugged a snap on scanner into mine this week. It had logged a MAF fault, YIPEE i thought. Ordered new bosch maf from euro car parts, fitted.....still the same!!!

i still have what appears to be a misfire low down when cold, and holds back on part throttle between 1500rpm and 3000rpm. It's really bloody annoying me now, bought the car a few weeks ago and spent hundreds on it (including breaking down thanks to the clutch pedal snapping) on small common issues!!!!

i have also noticed lots oil round the back of the rocker cover turbo side as if it has a split breather pipe or rocker cover gasket issue. I couldnt see any split pipes

Can anyone else help with my hesitating issue?

Mine is going to jtech automotive tomorrow for a full road test and diagnostic session it will cost about £70 but I think it's worth it rather than buying random parts trying to guess the issue...? On another note I after speaking to a number of garages they all seem to say similar things ie: MAF, n75, coilpack, crankcase hose splitting, Some hose down on front of the inlet mani can cause issues.... Check all of that! Oh and I know ecp sell Bosch MAFs but apparently they are not guaranteed to be set up like an oem MAF and can still cause issues so you are better off spending the extra £20 and getting it from seat (seres garage on here do them cheaper I think) I will post up on here regarding my findings tomorrow

i work in a dealer, hence having access to the snap on scanner and finding a fault with the maf. I guess im going to have to have a closer look when ever i get time at the common things you have mentioned

I have a similar problem, start driving and around 1800 rpm the car holds back and then a 2200 rpm it starts pulling. Like all the power has gone. Think it could be my DV not sure?

Not done anything yet. Checked hoses and cant find any splits, run vag com and no faults / high readings. My mates works for Audi and he said that he will put it on the ramps. Believe its been doing it ages because when i put my foot down sometimes its pulls really strong and then like i say it hits a brick wall and then comes in again, noticeably slower - looks like a few people have the same problems. I will do my best to cure this though.

Worth cleaning and resetting the throttle body if the symptoms clear once warm... both the TB and DV can stick causing hesitation.

I think ive got something similar on my 1.8T Toledo, ive had the coil packs replaced and new spark plugs, but no difference. Garage seem to have no idea, want to just replace parts 1 at a time until its fixed!!

MAF does seem to be the often mentioned solution, but unplugging didnt seem to make much difference. Other things ive seen mentioned are vacuum leaks, N75, DV, Fuel filter(?), Coolant temp sensor, o2 sensors. List is pretty endless it would seem. Some time back i had both o2 sensors replaced, im wondering if one has gone again or if it was dodgy when fitted. (im im honest im not sure i want to continue sinking money into it, might just go and get a Honda!)

so just had a call from the guys looking at my car today and this hesitation problem is being caused by a boost leak..! the IC is leaking :( but they have also found that my ECU wont give a signal to VAGCOM for the engine management console every thing else reads ok so convenience, abs etc... they suggested it could be the REVO map but after calling revo just now that cant be the case so not sure? maybe a loose wire? they also discovered a steering column problem and possible coilpack failure :( damn VAG cars there is always an issue!!

Done a bit more reading this afternoon/eve, sounds very much like the throttle body needs a clean and or reset. OP - you might like to give this a go if you havent already before replacing anything else! Im not sure whether to do it myself or see if my garage is willing to.

Its really easy to do, but if you disconnect it you will need to have it re set, where abouts are you? maybe post in the Vag-Com section and some kind soul will help you out.

Im in Cambridge, ive changed oil and other basic service items on previous cars before but im a bit wary of the Toledo as the VAG cars seem user self-service unfriendly, even changing a bulb is more hassle than in any previous car ive owned!

Booked in with my garage to clean the throttle body, but frankly ive just about had enough. Seriously doubt id ever buy a VAG car again.

Ok so took my car to storm in reading today regarding this issue...they put it on the rolling road and ran some scans and then connected my n249 back up which helped to smooth it a bit the car was also running lean so they tweaked the map whilst on the dyno to correct the lean issue my car feels 90% cured I am fitting new coilpacks tomoz so I am hoping that will fix it completely...so I guess it gives you all something else to look for in the endless bid to cure the Leon gremlins!

Had my coolant temp sensor/sender replaced today to see if that would help. Not sure yet as I havent driven it from cold which is when its worst. However, even on the return journey it gave a few little jerks under low revs and part throttle. Wont be spending any more money on it, so far this year ive spent nearly a grand (cars only worth that!) fixing stuff thats gone wrong/doesnt work. Totally not worth it.

Good luck to anyone else who perseveres. I get the distinct impression that the only way to cure it would be to replace all sensors (o2, maf, tps, etc) at the same time and coilpacks and plugs etc etc which would cost quite a lot!

same boat as me, the coolant temp sensor is the last straw for me which i'll do this week

if not, i think i'll go back to a cheap jap daily rather than the leon. I went vag in the hope of reliability, so far its had about every common fault happen all within a month of ownership!

Good luck, i hope you can sort it out. My previous car was a Primera EGT which was a much better car in many ways, bit slower in a straight line but quicker through the corners, cheaper to run and probably more fun to drive overall!
