Hello

I'm thinking of lowering my ibiza 50mm on 17's with a offset of 35? and 205/45
tyres??

Anybody done this or something similar?

I suppose my main question is does it rub on the the tyre side wall when done??? (with or without passengers??)
I'm not too fussed about when on full look and steering.

any words of experiances would be great

Nice one add

Mines is lowered 40mm at the front and 60mm at the back, running 17"s with 40 tyres on. No rubbing whatsoever, except when going around a bend fast with a full car. But that never happens.

If i had the money, go with coilovers and get 14" deep dish alloys on her for uber lowness. But thats just me :)

Not sure if this helps, but last year a guy on Ebay was selling his Ibiza GTI and I mailed him about wheel fitment. He said: "Arches needed skimming as it's been fully lowered 40mm, 17's go straight on but you will get a little rub when there's 3 in the back."

All I know is that they were Oz alloys..not sure if it's any help or not.

Alix

Yea very little rub. Thats one of the Ibizas advantage over the VW models. My mates Polo was dreadful for scrubbing

what part of the tyre does it rub on?
any ideas?? it is the top or the side wall meeting the wing/arch?

cheers

if ur buying coilovers, dont go for 17" alloys, will still look too high.
ive got 15s and a set of FK coilovers on and it looks good imo.

id say 15" is a good site because you can drop it a lot and it looks good, if u want a picture ill post one for you.
mines is down about 60-65mm on 15s:)

Yep. If your running 17" with coilovers, not only are you going to have to modify the weel liners, but youl have a ride like a steam train from the old west!

Personally if i had the cash, id get a set of deep dish and slam her da fook. Uber lowness is the best look.

Prob wont have coilovers (bit pricey)

anyone got the diameter of a 17"wheel with 40 profile tyres on??

and a diameter of a 17"wheel with 45 profile tyres on??

this info would be great!!

Hi,

If you're not using coilovers to lower the car - what's the alternative? Something to look into for my wagon :D

Thanks

Why did you go outside to measure your wheel?

17" wheel plus tyre depth of 4cm, bit of conversion and hey presto ;)

Coilovers with 17"s on - car 2 high?

You just wind them down till they are low enough

Coilovers are roughly about £100-£200 more expensive per make over the normal sports suspension kits which are not adjustable.

Guys where the hell have you been gettin this information? Max Power :headhurt:

Coilover's are the best to get then as you can change the ride height - whereas if you buy sports suspension at say, 30mm and think it's too high you can't drop it any more?

All well and good but that works out at just a shade over 20" diameter (assuming you add the tyre twice as it goes all the way round the wheel).

The sums are wrong because a 40 section tyre is not 40mm (4cm) tall - it's 40% of the tread width tall, which on a 205 width tyre is 82mm  Multiply that by 2 (unless you've got special tyres that don't go all the way around the wheel), convert to inches and add the wheel diameter and you have your answer. It's nearly 23.5".

Note that a 205/40R17 is only about 2.5% larger diameter than a 195/45R16 or a 195/50R15 (commonly used as a replacement for the OE 185/55R15) - and that's less than the difference between a brand new tyre and a barely legal one. Hence I really don't understand these comments about "the car will be too high". If the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre combo is the same, the height will be the same.

by the time u wind down the coilovers enough to make it low, its going to scrape like a b!tch, hence why 15" alloys are best for coilovers cos u can get it on the deck easier without the arch modifications.

Are we comparing eggs with eggs here? Or are you talking about running undersized wheel/tyre combos or tyres that are really stretched onto over width rims?

If you're not talking about either of these situations, then there really isn't that much difference in the overall diameter between a 195/50R15 on a 15" rim (say 6J to 7J wide) and a 205/40R17 on a 17" rim (say 7J to 7.5J wide).

Perhaps Add, like me, just wants the chassis of the car to sit snug over his alloys? In which case coilovers and arch modding is the way to go?

diameter with a 205 40 17 tyre on is 23" from the outer edges of the tyre
how good am i to you i just went out into the cold to measure my wheel

Cheers for that!!! top man. basically i have just been doin some rough comparisions!

not far off the same size as my standard wheels and tyres really.
