Had my cambelt and waterpump changed yesterday iv done 57000miles and its a 2003 Cupra, when I walked in to collect it they produced the water pump with a chip on the impellor blade and when I went to move it the blade fell off
If yours is due to be changed or your in any doubt wether to do this don't wait do it asap!!!

was it a plastic impeller?

Yes the original one was, the one that's on now is a nice solid metal one : D
I'm just glad the plastic one didn't let go

very lucky but they are known to fail. Defiantly get a metal one!
