Lumpy start up

My car is sounding very lumpy on start up, it starts but sounds like it can hardly be arsed! Then its lumpy and sounds like its gonna stall for a while or untill I drive off and I can't hear it then. It was due a service last month but because of Christmas £££!!! I'm leaving it untill January.
It has never been like this before (ie last winter) any reason why, anyone elses diesel like this, or should I not worry?

most probably just the FREEzING WEATHER! but could be a maf sensor.

My old Cupra TDI was like this and that was a couple of months ago before it got this cold! It sounded rough and wanted to stall when pulling out of junctions etc for first 5 mins or so. I think its quite normal, a bit annoying and my petrol Cupra nothing like that..it feels fine straight away.

Well I'm not to worried unless lots of people post saying things that could be wrong. It was fine last winter that's all, is it maybe cos it needs a service, will it be any better after a service?

well that is the million ugandian dollar question question needs to be looked at in the METAL by a tech as you cant get a perfect answer over the net

yeh guess so, the 'tech' (step-uncle Tim!) at Wheelbase will get that job.

AIMEZ, I think you have a dodgy glow plug, give it 2 or 3 goes on the glow plugs before you turn the starter and see if it helps

they are not mega expensive or mega tricky to replace

oh no! I hope not, well as long as it runs till next year with no problems, as like most people I don't have the time/money till then!

This is what we have to do with our M reg Escort work van. Turn ignition on, wait for glow plug light to turn off, turn ignition on, wait for light and do it again! And the bloody thing still doesn't start!

0-60 in 5 days. 30mph in 1st, 50 mph in second.

Seriously that van is magic! You can put it into 3rd or above - flat your foot, watch the speedo and the magic begins....

The magic is that the speedo doesn't move!

Nathwarr - you're telling me it's 60bhp! I know it is! Any slight incline and it looses speed rapidly! You have to literally keep it flat all the time!

I know this means nothing to you at all but I went onto the motorway at Taunton and came off a Bridgwater - put my foot flat to the metal when I went onto the motorway - what do you reckon the speed was when I came off at Bridgwater - 11 miles down the motorway?

I just thought, since it's been cold has your car been getting normal running temperature up? I know mine is really struggling to.

yeh your probably right, as soon as January comes its in for a service its overdue now!
