M5 unbelievable

Some of the comments on here Rob where to do with basically LCR vs .... its always coming up. I'm not here to argue with anyone as we all have a common love for the same thing.

Whether it be an M5 or a Boxster there is always a comparison with the LCR. Both are great cars in their own right.

One of the new M6s past me yesterday. I was doing about 85mph on midlands motorway and saw him slowly come up behind me (was about 5 car lengths away), so I moved over, and within a couple of secs he was past!

Nice looking car... the colour was bl00dy awful though! Like a rusty cooper. Didn't look good on that car at all (compared to our copra fella on SCN)

The M6 is not a nice looking car imo.Guy at work had one and sold it as he just said it was not nice to drive and wasn't as good as his old M5 (pre e39 one). He now drives an 850i...Now thats a good looking beast

from an m6 to an 850 im sure its a lovely car but they are absolutely dreadful to work on, im sure the m6 drove better than the 850!!!

But for him he found the M6 just actually quite boring and leaden to drive with no real user interaction. Plus his iDrive went wrong week in week out. I think the 850i is an awesome looking car.

An 850 is an awesome looking car, but its also a fat barge. Seems a strange route to go from E39 M5, to M6 then back a decade or so to an 850!

An E46 M3 or E39 M5 will be my next purchase - I have driven the E60 M5 and it made my trousers moist. Sadly I can't see the opportunity to stump up the wrong side of £60k arising too soon on my horizons!

just for you we will say that the 3 m5s who have played with me.. were not trying at all. one was on a single road and two on dual carridgeways. they made a big impression but i seemed to match the power.. i was able to creep past . naff all in it but enough for me to smile.

as already said. i am not comparing leons to anything. im relatively new to modding and am suprised that my 320bhp 320lbs/ft modified to hell leon can do as ive said above. im guessing that the main advantage is my lighter weight? map?

perhaps you should get a ride in a ihi seat. youd be very suprised

Let's not forget that the M5 is a good 500KG heavier than the M5! That's like putting a Mini on your roof and expecting the same performance.

Granted the M5 has far superior traction, but if you're comparing a 320bhp Leon to a 400bhp M5 when already on the move, it might not be as night-and-day as you think.

You'll also be suprised at how little a 500kg difference makes once 'moving'

adding almost half a leon to my car would make a big difference. especially if it was the block and turbo

out of intrest then suprise me. how much brake would a 500kg lighter leon have to put down to equal an m5 running at 400brake?

It's got 400hp. 369lbs of torque and weighs 400-500 kg more. It'll get it's traction down better to get away from a standstill quicker, get to 100 quicker, and get past 150+ Quicker. But that's all from a standing start.....

I believe it would be more of a difference, if you were both rolling on a straight road, as I already said, 'once moving' weight doesn't add up to alot of factors.

There is a huge difference in class, and not something that can be compared to a Leon.

Hmmm having owned a remaped LCR and had quite a few plays with my old bosses 400bhp M5, they are still noticeably quicker.
I had a play with a new m5 in the chim and didn't have enough gears or revs once the longer straights came along, fantastic cars.

im comparing 320 to 400 and asking why they are matched on the road.
it cant be power, according to snoopie its not weight..
