i was out in my o3 lcr last night and had parked the car up outside the bar were we were.

i went out and started the car up and tried to select reverse with no luck it just wouldnt go in? so i got first and set off as i went into second i noticed that the gearstick just fell into 2nd with no effort at all and 2n ger is just like 1st i.e same speed same revs?

iv now only got 1st and 2nd gear,i can select them all when the engines off but when im moving theres only 1+2?

the car was fine on the way out and then when i got in it was like this?

any help would be greatlads.cheers:banned:

Possible linkage problem BUT, be aware that the selector shaft is a weak point on these boxes, the rivets work loose and eventually sheer, sometimes taking the shaft with it causing similar problems to what you are experiencing.

I'm not saying it is that but would be the worst case scenario.

hi all iv also got 03 lcr and im expieriencing exactly the same problem as cupra-jb. when it happened
i called out the rac and was told by the technician that it was the selector.
if it is the selector how do i change it, and does the gearbox have to come out to do it. what would be my next step in fixing this problem?. whats involved with changing the selector? any advice you could give me would be fantastic. so please please help. thanks

The selector is the fork inside the GB that is moved by the gear box linkages to select the gears.

Take a look at this, this is similar to what we have but we have wire linkages to the top of our box where the Honda has solid bars for linkages.

Hope this helps

If you've not already has a good look at the site above it will clear up most of the questions you have about your car, from turbo to engine and gear box

hi all again does anyone know if the gearbox needs to come out in order to change the selector?
thanks. also does know if its a simple job or a monster job

Madpeck

Did you get a chance to read the above post?
The selector fork is inside the GB and the GB needs to be removed to allow this to happen.
The magnitude of the job depends on your skills, tools and previous experience.
If you have done lots of the it should be easy for you.
If you've never done this before you might manage

Well iv just had a call from the garage and it was the selectors that have caused the issue.

he said one selector had broken, another was loose and the third one is fine?
also havin a new clutch fitted whilst the box is out as thats worn badley too.:-o

o well thats not gonna be cheap, but atlest it will be right when i get it back.

exactly the same here, selector. parts so far are 100quid just the labour now.
