Hey all,

Been having boost issues in my 03 Cupra as some may know and on the road to fixing them I've replaced the MAF (twice), replaced N75, replaced CTS, upgraded to a Forge 007 (sp) and run through vag com a lot. None of that has worked. So I took the car to Volksmaster and they had it for a week and ran lots more diagnostics, did smoke tests, vac/pressure tests, replaced the N249, replaced a couple of breather pipes, tested the diverter valve, checked all hoses, checked the feed to each sensor and fuses, checked the recirc puck and even rigged up a boost gauge. The turbo operates normally up to and above 10psi before surging and slapping in to limp mode where it boosts to 5psi max. P17705 is still there and limp mode remains until car is switched off and restarted. Nearly 400 quid lighter in the wallet region and still the cars not fixed.

Volksmaster seem to think it could be down to the Elite map on the car losing its parameters. Does this sound right? If so if we take the map off and revert to standard should things be hunky dory? If that does work I'll try to get Elite to check the map, adjust accordingly and flash it back on to see how it goes. Just wanted some feedback from you guys as to this really. I've also heard r tech have come across this problem a few times and have a fix for it but after Volksmasters bill I don't have the 150 quid just yet.

map cant change..
did it do this ever since remap or was it ok for some months and developed the fault?

no errors in vagcom for checksum are there?

Hi mate, the car was fine before the map and the map was only put on about 3 months ago. It drove well for a couple of weeks, but then again I had nothing but this car to compare it to, and then I noticed boost would become intermittent and just not smooth, eventually boost would simply vanish if the car is pushed hard and limp mode appears. Volksmaster said they checked and tested everything else.

I'm just stuck as to what else it could be besides an issue with the map itself. I can't get over how much I've spent on this car in the short time I've had it, any pointers would be immensely appreciated.

wouldn't be suprised its a bogus map , i went r tec with another car with boost issues , both had rubbish maps on it , requesting stupid levels of boost and done not to fueling or timing , car was running way lean, but nick soon fixed that now my car is running stupidily quick. bill also can confirm he seen a quite alot of shocking maps on his dyno also

Thanks for the replies guys.

So I am talking to the garage that put the Elite map on the car. Would the right way to go be that we take the map off and see what happens with the car for a week or so, of course I've paid 200 quid for a map so would want Elite to look at it, adjust it and put a different map back on?

I'd like to walk away from them to be honest but 200 quid is too much to just let go of and I seriously doubt they'd refund due to it being a while ago.

If its caused problems you can have it taken off and your money back. Provided you took the contract out(Paid the company) It comes under Suppliers of goods and services act 1982, section 4 "Where the supplier has supplied goods that must be of satisfactory standard and fit for purpose" Same as section 13 then covers the supplier must carry out the service with reasonable care and skill. the latter is kind of a catch all sentance. Covers misdiagnosis to poor workmanship, even down the a bolt being left loose ;)

Nice one Dan.

The car is going in to the map dealer (not Elite themselves) to have the map removed. Once that's done I should expect the car to run normally albeit on its base map, is that right guys?

Provided its the cause, yes. If not it rules out one potential fault. Badger 5 is well worth the trip :)

Ya know what Dan, I believe you. It's a bit of a trek and the car has cost so much so far I'm terrified of another big bill and no fix. Volksmaster are nice guys but it was wrenching to pay out a big chunk of money and still have the problem.

See what happens on Saturday, if there's no difference with the map taken off then surely the lads at Volksmaster would have picked it up.

Goddamn my stupid inability to drive a sensible car lol

Map was taken off today by the helpfull chap at Elite, he adjusted it and put back on. Unfortunately the same problem is there. Boost is fine, smoother than before (no hiccups) but when pushed it vanishes again until the ignition is restarted. Had things to do today so will have to go back again to have the original base map flashed back on.

Gutted!

And fed up.

Nightmare.

Did you check (or have checked) the wastegate actuator nut hasn't been badly adjusted / actuation pressure is set right?

Hey fella, I wouldn't know tbh, not that techy minded. I will ask this though when I can.

The boost is lovely right now, as in smooth and progressive, just bloody vanishes after I accelerate hardish. At bloody wits end now and just so disappointed.

Yeah I'm going to have the OEM map slapped back on and see what its like from there, was going to do that today but the chap at Elite adjusted the map, and apparently compensated for a boost leak he suspected, sent it back to the garage I was at and put this adjusted map back on the car. As mentioned boost is much smoother and without the hiccups/hesitation but of course that's no good when it cuts out after about 60mph.

Just to point out the garage the car goes to isn't Elites, they just use Elite maps.

So the boost was vanishing at 4000 revs. Volksmaster have smoke tested it and reported back there were def no leaks. Had the base map put back on today.

With the other map on the car was very quick, loads of pull of course up to 4000 revs, then it went in to limp.

Now back on OEM map its not as pully obviously but I booted it to 5000 revs and still had boost. Problem is 17705 fault has popped up again.

I can't win.
