Are all map updates on the Terramar handled automatically as OTA updates, or is this only for minor updates? If it's the latter, how do you check map version and perform periodic 'major' updates? Can't see anything obvious in the infotainment menus or the user manual.

Amazed anyone would use the stock navigation system when mobile phone intergation gives you Google Maps or Waze depending on your preferences - there are probably others too.

I believe the 10 year Connect Licence that all UK Terramars had will ensure that the integrated nav system gets OTA updates.

Oh I know there are far better nav options, but only need to use it rarely so can’t be arsed with setting up my phone nav when I do!

Plus I’m the kind of person who likes to know stuff’s updated even if I don’t use it 😂

Thanks for the reply, I’ll just leave the car to do its own thing and will stop search for CUPRA map updates.

Well mib2 you could make it into a traditional satnav

Uploading your destinations as well as speed cameras. Holiday routes, hotels, National Park walks etc can be slapped in for future reference. Google is commercial so they aren't going to reflect outdoor activity spots very well.

Google maps is also rubbish at keeping things up to date. Waze users digitise non existent roads, fantasy merchants. You need QA in digital maps. Google and Waze dont have that.

Google maps have retrenched on timely aeriel images since it costs them license money to share. Probably why you get digital rubbish. Apple digital images are much more timely than Google Maps which means that Apple is ahead of Google / Waze.

On street view Apple currently has major holes in their street view offering in the UK. Europe it's pretty complete. Nobody knows why that is. Probably a reason. Maps are good, but look around is lacking.

I use look around to get exact locations to driving destinations where you don't know the area. Post codes are hit and miss. Google maps drives pois by post code so they can be slapped on the post mans walk. 200 houses or so. Thats why the post code doesn't get you there.

Here Maps which is the mib2 high, mib3 and Android Automotive OS Vag one, uses postcodes and house number. Each house number can be digitally anchored to the entrance to the property. Some synthetic methods are used to in fill house numbers locations where the map isn't fully digitised. So they buy from someone the start and end house numbers of a postcode then string it along the street segment the postcode belongs to. You see it sometimes.

For my sins in past life I got into GIS systems for service planning. GIS and digital mapping are related. Turned into a retirement hobby.

Back to mib3 with paid up connect services you will get a monthly update in Europe. If not paid up or outside Europe I have the link:

Latest ones are there plus a link to all Europe. Seat / Cupra drags it's feet on releasing these, Vw and Skoda all the same so use the first one identified. The traditional June / November yearly ones are published free.

If you phone batteries dies or lost connection etc... currently quite a bit of building work going on in the UK. New estates popping up like no tomorrow.
