Fitted my RNS 315 OEM media system 2.2 in my pre FL 08 Leon and just need to find a Manchester based VAGCOM buddy who can activate my steering wheel controls (assuming that is why they're not working...) for a few beers and then my interior project is complete. Got the armrest of course too :)

So next is getting some black alloys! Advice people? Best value for money/wheels advice would be ideal, and of course pictures! Also tempted to buy some red break calipers too - anyone bought the £10 cheapo Hong Kong ebay ones?

Also probs gonna get the Triple R Composites splitter.

Try volksmaster bury/oldham i think user name RJ theres a link on the forum home page. Unless theres a willing individual!

Get some caliper paint its high temperature so should last.

How is the media unit? Im very tempted to get one but its all moneys moneys moneys and lots of choice but would love an oem looking one

P.s where in manchester m8

Nice one mate! Caliper paint, eBay?

Live in Salford next to old Trafford, originally from Northwich so anywhere between there and is a common route.

It's quality mate. I went for it cos I wanted DAB which the 510 didn't have, plus the 315 has Bluetooth built in so need to buy the underseat module and deal with all the extra wiring. Tom at Dabonwheels (google) gave me all the gear for £500 including Bluetooth mic. Had to buy the glass mount DAB aerial myself but he told me which one and the link, 25£ odd. Gps is quality, bluetooth phone integration is the best, streams all my music from my iphone as soon as I sit in my car. I'll put some pics up in a bit! If you do buy one give me a shout and I'll tell you the other bits n bobs (screws etc) I had to buy.

Black alloy recommendations anyone..? Pics please!

Oh yeah and before I bought I asked Tom if he had one from a seat and if it was the latest one (media system 2.2) with which he did have, so no need to change splash screen or code it etc as it came from a new Leon!

You legend. The 310 maybe the one i want. It has similar features as the kenwood that seat do but thats around 750 best price not fitted.

Does the usb / aux still work under the cd player (the kenwood disables this and has a usb next to the screen)

Maybe start a new thread for black alloys. Are you thinking of getting them sprayed or getting a replacement set?

Just noticed above, *no need to buy Bluetooth module with the RNS 315.

I don't have the USB unfortunately. My workflow is...Belkin adaptor to USB in cigarette lighter port and it has a splitter to feed aux. the rns 315 has an aux in too on the front but it also recognises the one under my armrest! I drilled a hole in the armrest so the cable goes into that one, looks neater. But I don't need to use it, as long as my iPhones charging then it automatically streams all my music via the in built Bluetooth!

Last image is streaming from phone automatically. Voice activated calls can be done, and watching vids on my phone/YouTube stream through to the car too! All singing all dancing :) and just cleaned it, so here's one more!

As for alloys I don't mind, up for recommendations... spraying would be a lot cheaper and I do like the current alloys.

Spray them the same colour as the bodywork? What shade of black is it inferi black?

Pics look sweet. Do dabonwheels supply evrything including head unit? Iv heard some dont include bluetooth and arnt distinguished by part numbers.

Good write up and smart installation mate.

I didn't realise the RNS315 had BT built in and didn't need the separate module, which is why I've been looking at 3rd party units. I fancy one of these now, especially with the bonus of DAB radio and the OEM look...

Yeah I'm really pleased with it. Just to clarify, the videos don't stream through to it, just the audio! And it doesn't work as a DVD player. But other than that it does everything else :) if anybody needs advice fitting give me a shout, I struggled for ages as most just go for the 510.

Yeah the OEM look and DAB is what I mainly wanted it for Phil! Tom at DabOnWheels is sound and helped a lot. FYI, it doesn't work straight away, I had to go to the auto electricians and got him to split the power input - OEM stereo was 12v and this needs 24v. Only cost £25. The GPS adaptor is magnetic and just sits on the back of the unit, worked straight away. Supplied with full Western Europe sat nav too. Yeah the wiring for the 510 looked a nightmare cos of the bluetooth module. I just plugged the yellow and grey (in case I forget in the future!) cables into the back of the loom (wiring diagrams show you which ones) vice versa for the BT mic, positive and minus. Wired it with a coathanger down the passenger side and tucked it in the back of the footwell neatly (easy to lift the plastic up and just snug it in), round and up through the passenger side fuse box (obviously no fusebox in there, but the equivalent of the fuse box on the drivers side) then up the passenger A pillar which came off semi-easily. Tucked it in snugly above the top of the dash window and through to the inside of the interior light, which you access by detaching the rear view mirror. The microphone (as per RNS 510 sticky retro fit guide) has a place built for it so it's perfectly fit.

Jay, yeah that's right. Request one with DAB (rarer but Tom had one!) as some just have GPS and BT. Also request it's media system 2.2 - which is the latest firmware.

I don't actually know what colour black it is, I got it from a Mini garage, previous owner had part ex'ed it and they just called it black on the paperwork. Any way I can find out? Metallic black...08 pre FL FR...any ideas? Or will it be in my manual or anything?

Next mod...get somebody with VAGCOM in Manchester to reactivate steering wheel controls, get my alloys sprayed black or buy some new ones (sprayed ideally if many do it that with success cos I'm broke!) and fit a black surround grill I just bought off somebody for £40!

Sounds like a tidy job...but not one I'd be that confident in taking on myself tbh.

Unfortunately there's a bit of distance between fancying one and being able to afford a new HU for me at the moment, especially after splashing £5k on changing cars.

If you struggle to find anyone with VCDS near you I've got a cable and I'm not a million miles away on the Wirral...as long as you know how to code it 'cause I don't..!
