Well its all suppose to be automatic even if you don't subscribe to connect services so the firmware gets updated itself for free followed by the radio logos so @East Yorkshire Retrofits has said. Now if you meddle you could get into trouble.
Probably like the old mib2 standard you can't jump trains so different firmware is like candyfloss because it's deemed it's better. That firmware only works with specific hardware and trains.
Now if you dont get an over the air update there is probably a very good reason for that. You have to have your security level set so you aren't hiding yourself. Early users of mib3 use to alter the security level then wonder why they were not getting firmware updates. That will be in the manual how to do that. People use to fiddle with that since it was helpful to suppress the emergency call bong early units had. Net effect you didn't get a firmware update. It gets downloaded but needs activating. There will be videos on that.
Those two sites are hobbyist sites so may not be reflecting your unit but as said it's all suppose to be automatic. The firmware is commercially owned by Vag and they take a dim view to you changing it yourself. Some Retrofitters use to sell the firmware but were told to stop it. Joining a bad boy club would mean their Vag tools being turned off so in the new world of increased security their business could be cancelled. Fun.
