Milltek Sports Cat

Hi,

I have recently had a Milltek exhaust fitted, and was wondering if it would be worth it if I got the Sports Cat as well? Would it increase anything performance wise?

The downpipe and cat are the only significantly restrictive parts of the exhaust system.

On my cupra (as i've mentioned to you before), fitting them opened up another 500rpm at the top end. As you already have REVO, you could also go REVO Stage 2 with this and your other mods.

Cheers. Im just trying to justify spending the extra £300.

I dont think it would be worth it if getting the cat only made a very small difference.

I must admit, when the induction kit went on, the car doesnt really feel as quick as before.

The Downpipe and cat won't make a massive difference. Not like having Revo installed. It will improve the noise from the rest of your Milltek System.

Unless you plan to go Stage 2 (for which you'd really need a FMIC too), the exhaust is really only for looks and sound.

As for your induction kit, did you perform a Throttle Body Alignment after you installed it?

What sort of kit is it? Their 'Airforce' one looks similar to Dynatwist and BMC CDA so should be ok if you're drwaing your cold air from a good source?

Its a Jetex open cone filter induction kit. I didnt perform a throttle body alignment. Don't even know what that is or how to do it im afraid.

Is the cone shielded in any way from the rest of the engine?

Do you have cold air being fed to it's proximity in any way?

If neither of the above then you will be down on power. You're drawing hot, less dense air in to the engine. Less air = less fuel = less power.

Its sitting in the standard airbox (bottom half) with the standard air feed coming into it.

The filter itself has its back to the engine and is facing the wing. I dont have anysort of heatshield though.

It's kind of half panel filter half induction kit....

I assume the filter is bolted directly to the MAF? You still have the potential to draw hot air through the top half of the cone as that is still exposed to the engine.

Did you fit it yourself?

Have a search on here for throttle body alignment, it's easily done. If that doesn't improve things then i'd consider ditching the Jetex and going for either a proper induction kit like the BMC CDA or just sticking a Green panel filter in the OE airbox and using some 80mm hose to get cold air from the front grill.

Yes i fitted it myself and bolted staright onto the MAF.

I'll try the throttle body alignment as ive found a post on it from a search.

If not then i may look at enclosing the induction kit off with some sort of metal sheilding from good old B&Q..

Final thought...

Was the Cone very oily? There is always the possibility that oil from the filter has contaminated the MAF probe...

No, it only very slightly oily but not enough to be worried about i dont think.

I've just enclosed the induction kit with some aluminium sheeting just as a temporary measure to see what happens....... and its made a significant difference. The tapping has almost gone too. Must have been the heat getting into the filter after all. The exhaust sounds deeper too.
