Hi Guys,

Hope all is well. It's been a while since I last posted on here. I think my last post was to do with my xenon headlight, which turned out to be the little braided cable inside the headlight!

Any way I've got a couple of things to ask. First one is if I were to start my build thread would it be in the members rides section?

And my next question is my car has developed a misfire. I have the logs here

Is this just the coil packs or something more major? And if I replace the coil packs is there much difference replacing them with the red R8 ones?

Probably could do with an inlet valve clean if you havnt had one before. Thats what i would be looking at.

Never thought of that! Ive ordered spark plugs and pick them up tomorrow. No harm in changing them to see if it make any difference.

I've got my evoms intake and pcv delete coming this week so I'll have a look wile I'm in there. There isn't and how to's on how to clean it is there?

Not sure about the tutorial mate. Is the missfire on idle or when driving or is it just come up on vcds?

What i mean is can you feel it? Most people seem to cure persistant missfires by changing the injector from the offending cylinder, but you would have to rule out plugs and coils first.

There seems to be the slightest misfire on idle. And I've had that for a long time and never thought anything of it. Tonight the engine management started flashing for a bit then went out and that's when this fault appeared. It's only when I'm on it and at high revs it started to miss properly though.

I had the car remapped at APR a couple months ago and wonder if the extra power has made this rear its head

P.S These engines do seem to throw up occasional missfires tbh.

Having looked at your logs its not missing often and i wouldnt worry about it to be fair.

Alot of people spend a few quid trying to eliminate the missfires and quite often dont succeed

Ahh right. If its happening at higher revs and its brought your eml on i wouldnt be ignoring it, and its not likely to be dirty valves causing that issue.

Spark plugs, Coil packs ( Swap them over to see if the missfire stays on offending cylinder ) and then go from there.

Also slight miss at idle seems common place with these engines and not usually anything to worry about imho.

I have the exact same car as you and mine misses a bit on idle occasionally.

Well that's good to know! I guess if it gets worse I will need to look deeper into it. Could be a multitude of things.

I'm wanting to start a build thread. Mainly for myself, but I'm wanting it for things like cleaning the inlet etc.

Here's a thought actually. The guy at Ecotune (where the Apr map was done) said that the slight misfire is the pcv valve. I wonder if it's got that bad that it's coked up the inlet? Could be the cause of all the issues...

Well if your bang into your car mate it wont hurt to get your inlet valves and ports cleaned as even if it doesnt fix the problem it prob could still do with being done. What mileage you on?

I would be be doing an inlet clean then. Should be quite a bit in there by now.

Ive read a few that start giving running issues from about 60k onwards so deffo one to tick off then.

So today I decided to change the plugs and when I removed the coil pack on cylinder 1 I was presented with this!

At first I panicked and thought it was something like a head gasket so after a quick call to my mate, he said that when the seal goes on the coil pack that water gets in and does that.

I changed the plugs and moved the culprit to cylinder 2. Cleared the faults and went for a run. It logged a misfire in cylinder 2 so it's the coil pack. I'll pick a new one up tomorrow and hopefully I'm back to normal!

Hopefully an easy fix then mate.

Are you running with no engine cover because water has been getting on to that coil pack from somewhere?

Running with an engine cover. Any water would have got in round the oil filler somehow I reckon.

I do have an evoms intake coming this week So the cover will be gone.

It looks like this coil has been changed before as it's different to the rest. It's probably just a cheap one.

have you got a mouldy bonnet lining? And are you aware of the water that gets in from the plastic part of the bonnet?
